During Nintendo Direct, a new Splatfest was announced for Splatoon 3, starting July 14 at 5:00 pm PT and running until July 16 at 5:00 pm PT. In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, each Splatfest featured two teams, such as Cats and Dogs, whereas in Splatoon 3, each Splatfest features three teams, such as Rock, Paper, and Scissors.

This next theme will be sure to keep players cool during the summer

New Splatfest based on three ice cream flavors

The theme for this Splatfest will be centered around the ice cream flavors vanilla, strawberry, and mint chip with new challenges to accompany.

One challenge shown in the announcement is Foggy Notion, a challenge where players compete in Turf War with fog surrounding the battlefield, causing low visibility. The density of the fog changes as the battle goes on.

In the announcement video, the colors used by the teams in Foggy Notion do not seem to fit the ice cream aesthetic. Dark purple ink can be seen instead of bright strawberry pink so Foggy Notion may not be a part of the new Splatfest.

The Foggy Notion challenge goes live June 28 and is playable on the stages, Eeltail Alley and Hammerhead Bridge.

However, there are more to a Splatfest than just challenges. Before a Splatfest begins, Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square and Splatsville experience a variety of visual upgrades to prepare for the event. One can imagine what summery aesthetic Splatsville might take on for this new Splatfest.

The last Splatfest Power vs. Wisdom vs. Courage was a celebration of the Legend of Zelda series to promote Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

It doesn’t seem likely that Nintendo is advertising a Legend of Zelda game based on ice cream, but this summer’s Splatfest will still offer challenges and rewards for players.
