So, PSVR 2 vs Meta Quest 2. Which should you buy? Let’s take a closer look and see which is worth your hard-earned cash. Spoiler alert: a PSVR 2 pre order might well be on the cards.
Of course, we already know all about the Meta Quest 2 as it’s been out for a while now, and we recently did our full PSVR 2 review, so both headsets are pretty fresh in our swedes.
Even after the Meta Quest 2’s price increase, it still remains a compelling option for those wanting to get into VR gaming.
Its standalone nature specifically makes it very tempting as you don’t need anything else to get going. You can of course use the optional Quest Link feature to connect the Meta Quest 2 to a PC to boost the performance.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the PSVR 2, which doesn’t function without a PS5, meaning that it’s only really tempting for those who already have a PS5.
These are of course a lot easier to get ahold of nowadays, with the supply issues easing considerably over the last year, so if you’ve got one, you’ll be able to take advantage of the superior performance over the Meta Quest 2.
So, when it comes to performance, we’re 90% sure that the PSVR 2 will win, however, you will have to stay tethered to your PS5, which is an understandable dealbreaker for some VR enthusiasts.
Here are the full spec sheets for the PSVR 2 and the Meta Quest 2. You’ll notice they are pretty similar, but there are some key differences to take note of.

We can see here that, other than the PSVR 2 needing a PS5, and the Meta Quest 2 being standalone, the specs are overall pretty similar. The biggest difference is the FOV or field of view.
FOV refers to how much of the world you can see at any given point. The PSVR 2 allows you to see around 13-degrees more, which doesn’t sound like a lot but we promise you it’s a significant difference.
Now that the PSVR 2 price has officially been confirmed, along with its release date, this section gets very competitive indeed as the $550 price stage of the PSVR 2 is pretty close to that of the Meta Quest 2.
Yes, the PSVR 2 price is higher than the $399 that the Meta Quest 2 commands. But we think the PSVR 2 will end up being more powerful than the Meta Quest 2, but we can’t say for sure just yet.

Another area where the PSVR 2 reigns supreme is haptics. This is because there are none on the Meta Quest 2 whatsoever.
The focus on haptics for the PSVR 2 is unsurprising, given the success of the variable resistance haptic triggers on the PS5 DualSense controller.
Obviously, no one’s managed to get hands-on with the PSVR 2 yet, but Sony has repeatedly mentioned how the headset itself will have some subtle haptic feedback.
Additionally, the controllers will feature similar haptics to the headset, and the variable resistance triggers will return too.
A sad fact of the technological world is that the onward march of tech will mean that great products will be left behind, as the brands responsible go on to look after the newer variants.
This is particularly sad news for the Meta Quest 2, as now that the Meta Quest 3 is all but confirmed to arrive next autumn. This means that the Meta Quest 2’s days are unfortunately numbered.
This isn’t the case, at least not yet for the PSVR 2, as it’ll be at least a few years until its successor lands, probably not until the eventual PS6.
Both headsets experience a double-edged sword when it comes to comfort, due to the inherent differences in design. The PSVR 2 will be connected to the PS5, so there is less going on inside the headset itself, so the weight will probably be lessened.
Conversely, the Meta Quest 2 is entirely standalone and self-sufficient and standalone, meaning that everything must be housed within the headset itself. It is decently comfy, but even Meta has accepted that it’s not ideal as they released a premium strap addition.
Seeing as the PSVR 2 isn’t out quite yet, we can’t say for sure, but the difference in the nature of these designs means that we’re fairly comfortable that the PSVR 2 will be more comfortable, especially in terms of overall weight.
