Intel 14600K vs 13600K – new gen vs old gen – which is the better buy? It is that time again when Intel is freshening up its CPU line-up. With the Intel 14th gen release date having come to pass, the specs and price confirmed, and their performance now tested in our in-depth Intel Core i5-14600K review, we can now compare these two chips. In short, the 14th gen basically amounts to a range refresh, but nothing too significant.
Before you buy / pre order a 14th Gen Intel CPU you should know the 13600K and now 14600K sit more toward the middle of the pack, you can find some great value and performance out of them. The new range is coming with the same LGA 1700 socket that came with the 13th gen CPU range, and has been here for the past two generations, Even though it was rumored to be ditching it this year, this is obviously not the case. So to see which is most worthwhile for you, we’re comparing the Intel Core i5-14600K vs i5-13600K to see what they have to offer.

As confirmed with the release of the specs on the Intel site, there’s not too much difference between the Intel 14th gen and the 13th gen, including the i5-14600K vs i5-13600K. The 14600K does have the potential to be a great Intel CPU, sitting in the middle of the pack, there is a lot of potential in it with a potential for being one of the best CPUs at its price range.
We can see above the same number of cores and threads for the CPU, but with a turbo clock that is supposedly up by 0.4GHz, which should mean an increase in performance. The overclock on the processor gives that extra push to get something more out of it. It is rather surprising that the TDP is staying the same. But as far as we know the reported number is unlikely to be the actual power it consumes under usage.
14600K vs 13600K price
The Intel 14th-generation pricing was originally accidentally leaked by the retailer Overclockers, and this has been confirmed with the processors now listing on Amazon.
- Intel Core i5-14600K: $329 US / £320 UK
- Intel Core i5-13600K: $319 US (now dropped to $284) / £300 UK
As we can see above, there’s been a slight price increase over the MSRP of the previous generation, however the Intel 13th gen variant has dropped its price more in anticipation of the new launch, so is now available for less.
14600K vs 13600K performance
As we discuss in more detail in our Intel Core i5-14600K review, with thorough benchmarks conducted by our CPU specialist Jack Howarth who also conducted our 13600K review, the performance difference between the two generations is not earth-shattering. In both single core and multi-core scenarios you can expect an uplift of around 4-6%, depending on the specific program you’re using. Not a big difference, but given that the price difference is also fairly small they could still be worth your consideration. The cooling on the CPU is still the most difficult issue you face with these Intel chips.
14600K vs 13600K Final Word
That is our comparison between the 14600K vs 13600K CPUs. There’s not a whole lot of difference between the two devices, and ultimately which one is most worth your time laregely depends upon what price you can pick up either processor for. You can check what differences the 13th gen brought with our 13600K vs 12600K comparison, or if curious about the top flagship choices we also compared the 14900K vs 13900K.
