Is there a Ryzen 7 7800X3D laptop variant? What is the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D laptop equivalent? There’s only been one Ryzen X3D laptop processor unveiled, and that’s the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, which is unique to one ASUS laptop only – the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 X3D. This differs from the standard Ryzen 9 7945HX3D in that it has a 3D V-cache i.e. stacked L3 cache, which essentially means extra FPS performance in games at 1080p resolution (around 9% on average according to Jarrd’sTech) though limited gains at higher resolutions.
Besides this the closest contender in terms of other CPU specs besides the cache is the ASUS ROG Strix 17 with Ryzen 9 7845HX. We’ve broken down the specifications of both of these laptops compared to the desktop Ryzen 7 7800X3D further down this page if you want more info.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs Ryzen 9 7945HX3D specs
As you can see below, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is more powerful in most aspects compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D despite being a laptop processor.
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D
desktop/laptop | desktop | laptop |
Base clock | 4.2GHz | 2.3GHz |
Max Boost Clock | 5.0GHz | 5.4GHz |
L1/L2/L3 cache | 512KB/8MB/96MB | 1024KB/16MB/128MB |
Core/Thread count | 8/16 | 16/32 |
Default TDP | 120W | 55W |
Will there be more Ryzen X3D laptop CPUs?
Although there’s no evidence yet one way or another, our resident CPU expert Jack Howarth doesn’t expect more X3D models to make it into laptops until the next CPU cycle. Ultimately it’s a pretty niche upgrade which will only benefit a limited number of consumers.
Ryzen CPU naming conventions
The naming convention for AMD Ryzen laptop CPUs has always been slightly different from their desktop counterparts to distinguish the fact that these are different components (laptop CPUs are always less powerful than their desktop equivalents due to size, cooling, and voltage constraints). However with Ryzen 7000 series, AMD have made it quite a bit more complicated. You can read our AMD Ryzen 7000 series laptop guide for information on this, but the main thing you need to be aware of is that the medium-to-high level gaming laptop CPUs are called the Dragon Range and end with a ‘5HX’ at the end. These include the Ryzen 9 7945HX, Ryzen 9 7845HX, Ryzen 7 7745HX, and Ryzen 5 7645HX (see further down this page for a visual breakdown of these SKUs).
You’d think that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D desktop CPU would match up with the Ryzen 7 laptop equivalent; so far there hasn’t been an AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX laptop released. However, the more comparable equivalent is actually the Ryzen 9 7845HX laptop CPU.
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs Ryzen 9 7845HX specs
As you can see below there’s a substantial difference between the two CPUs in terms of their specifications. If you were comparing two desktop CPUs against each other, you’d notice the big difference in core and thread count, and assume that the Ryzen 9 7845HX would be more powerful than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, given it has roughly the same Max Boost Clock.
However, laptop CPUs are much more geared towards power efficiency, and the 55W TDP of the 7845HX is less than half of the 120W TDP of the 7800X3D, which has a big difference in performance. On balance then, the Ryzen 9 7845HX is roughly equivalent to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D – it’s the closest you’re likely to get anyway.
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX
desktop/laptop | desktop | laptop |
Base clock | 4.2GHz | 3.0GHz |
Max Boost Clock | 5.0GHz | 5.2GHz |
L1/L2/L3 cache | 512KB/8MB/96MB | 764KB/12MB/64MB |
Core/Thread count | 8/16 | 12/24 |
Default TDP | 120W | 55W |
