There is no surprise the Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature an online multiplayer journey for you and your friends to participate in. Since the start of early access, Larian Studios has mentioned the game’s online capabilities. Since this is the third main game in the series, it would be nice to see a connection between Windows PC and console.
Which console do you want to play Baldur’s Gate 3 on? Perhaps PlayStation? Maybe you want to romance your way through the game on Steam Deck? Will Baldur’s Gate 3 have crossplay?
Nope! Baldur’s Gate 3 will not feature crossplay when it launches in August. There has also been no mention of the game receiving crossplay capability in the future.
Since there will be no crossplay or cross-platform multiplayer, you will need to purchase the game on the same platform as your friends if you want to play online with them. It is always possible that Baldur’s Gate 3 could have crossplay features added in the future.
Crossplay could one day be added via a patch after the full release of the game. We will need to wait for an official statement from Larian Studios to confirm if the feature will be added later on.
While this feature might not be in the game, you can play with friends via a direct connection. You can also join a friends single player game as long as you are on the same console and play as a main player character.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have cross-platform progression?
While there will be no crossplay, Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature cross-platform game progression. This means that you can transfer your save from PS5 and continue playing on PC & Mac or vice-versa. You will be able to transfer cross-saves as long as you have a Larian account linked to your consoles.
It is nice that you will be able to switch between platforms without losing your progression. You can pre-purchase the game to get early access before purchasing the game on a different platform for the cross-progression feature.
