How many difficult options are there in Baldur’s Gate 3? Which game mode are you interested in trying out? By default, there are quite a few who may think that Baldur’s Gate 3 is difficult. For a while, the game has been in early access with only one difficulty. You can now change the difficulty setting.

Depending on which difficulty option you go with, combat encounters in Baldur’s Gate 3 will get easier or harder. You may need to perform more proficiency checks as well. At any time, you can change the difficulty setting if you are finding the game too difficult or too easy.

Larian Studios has unveiled information about all the classes and each of the races in the game. The developer even showed off how many character creation options there will be. This Dungeons & Dragons game will get very crazy. Here are all the difficulty options in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What difficulty options are in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The full release of Baldur’s Gate 3 has the following difficulty options:

  • Story Mode – combat has been made more forgiving so players can fully immerse themselves in the narrative layer of this adventure. In this mode, friendly NPCs are harder to kill, trader prices are at a 20 percent discount, and you’ll begin the game with a +2 starting proficiency bonus. This mode is for players who want to focus more on the story and romances.
  • Normal Mode or Balanced Mode – Normal mode is the standard difficult setting that players have experienced during the early access period. It features difficult combat that is meant to challenge the player but not overly difficult.
  • Hardcore Mode – Hardcore mode brings in a brutal AI and DM that is meant to challenge the player. This mode is also known as tactician difficulty and is meant to give players multiple layers of difficulty. In this game mode, the AI will prioritize enemies with lower AC and dice rolls will be more difficult to make. Enemies will also have increased HP and accuracy. Despite the difficulty, it is a good way to add little bits of spice to the game.

The game’s difficulty modes are similar to previous Larian Studios games like Divinity Original Sin which also has multiple game modes. The information about these difficulty settings can be found on the Steam community page.

Those who are playing on Hardcore/Tactician Mode will need to deal with enemies using the environment more often. Foes will take advantage of different ammo types and even shoot explosive barrels. The default settings of the game will have it set to normal mode so the Mind Flayers and other creatures of the Forgotten Realms shouldn’t be too overpowered.

Can you change the difficulty settings in Baldur’s gate 3?

Yes! You can switch the difficulty settings of Baldur’s Gate 3 at any time. This can be done by accessing the in-game menu using the ESC Key. Once there, select the difficulty setting option. This will give you the same three difficulty options that you got at the start of the game.
