Cyberpunk 2077’s big 2.0 update rejuvenated the game, so we’re going to take a look at the best controller settings for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty as many players give the game a revisit. Since the patch is now closely followed by the Liberty Phantom DLC, there’s much to sink your teeth into if you’re interested in the open-world RPG.

There are plenty of ways you can tweak your controls in Cyberpunk, which is handy considering many people found the controls quite janky back during the initial release. Once you’ve found yourself the best controller for Cyberpunk 2077, made sure you meet the system requirements, and are raring to go, let’s delve into the world of controller binds, tweaks, and fine-tuning.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty best controller settings

Exact controller settings can obviously be quite an objective thing. One person’s preference could feel awkward to play with for someone else, but generally speaking there are settings which work best for most people. We’ve had a good look around the web to see what players suggest most and tinkered them to our liking to figure out our best controller settings for Cyberpunk.

Controller bindings

For the most part, we saw no real problem with using the default controller mapping for Cyberpunk 2077, so feel free to leave everything on default if you wish. Control scheme in this sense largely comes down to preference, but the default layout works well and follows a conventional layout for many first person shooters on console, with a whole host of interaction and menu binds weaved in.

Whether you have the best controller for PC, or just are happy to play with the controller that came with your console, this layout is easy to get used to. Same goes for if you plan to play on a handheld like the Steam Deck.

Settings tweaks

While button bindings may work well as they are, the default sensitivities and advanced options for Cyberpunk are less than optimal in some regards, particularly when it comes to aiming on controller. Sure, you don’t really have the accuracy of the mouse, but the doesn’t mean it should feel unintuitive and clumsy in any way.

First off, we recommend toggling ‘Show Advanced Options‘ ON in order to show some of these important settings once you’ve worked your way through the basic options.

SettingValue
Inner Dead Zone0.01
Outer Dead Zone0.90
Horizontal Sensitivity10-15 (your preference)
Vertical Sensitivity10-15 (your preference)
Zoom Sensitivity Reduction1
Response CurveRecommended
Horizonal Turning Bonus0-0.5 (your preference)
Vertical Turning Bonus0-0.5 (your preference)
Turning Ramp-Up Time0
Turning Delay0
Horizontal Turning (ADS)0
Vertical Turning (ADS)0
Turning Ramp-Up Time (ADS)0
Turning Delay (ADS)0

So, that’s a bunch of changes to alter the feeling of aiming in game, which otherwise can feel unnatural. Poor default dead zone settings are the first offenders. You’ll notice that many options have simply been set to (or close to) zero. This is because ‘bonus’ and ‘ramp-up’ features cause unnatural changes to your sensitivity or cause aiming to feel sluggish, especially important to disable while you Aim Down Sight (ADS).

It’s also worth mentioning that this Reddit comment does mention some alternative ADS settings to try out as well. As for the sensitivity itself, this is something you can play around with to find the best for you (we recommend each axis has the same sensitivity).

Now you can be done with making the controls feel great and jump over to the Cyberpunk skill tree build planner and get to crafting the best experience for post-2.0 update Cyberpunk and the Phantom Liberty DLC.

Why is hard to aim with controller on Cyberpunk 2077?

We’ve seen many people complaining about the responsiveness or overall feeling of aiming your weapon in Cyberpunk while using a controller. If you’re used to playing different FPS games on a gamepad, we can understand why it can feel strange. Although aim assist and aim lock exist, they aren’t much use without some smooth inputs of your own.

It largely has to do with the default analog stick settings which include some advanced features that unfortunately don’t feel as natural as perhaps intended. Luckily for you, this can be adjusted quite nicely to your liking – we’ve got all the details just above.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty controller settings FAQs

Should I leave Cyberpunk 2077 controls as default?

Default settings give us a good framework for a comfortable control scheme, but there are adjustments you can make to improve the feel of the game (for most people). We talk you through the best.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 better on controller?

Cyberpunk plays really well on a controller, though PC players may prefer a mouse and keyboard for finer aiming due to the game’s first person shooter elements.

Either way though, the game offers great support for controllers and there is no problem for players that prefer them.
