Cyberpunk 2.0 is almost here as the release date finally hits. Some players may have been waiting until now to craft their first experience of Cyberpunk 2077, or they could be returning for the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC for a fresh experience. Either way, the massive 2.0 patch is going to be a gamechanger in many regards, so excitement is about to boil over.

We’ve already learnt of the Phantom Liberty file size, but what about patch 2.0? You’ll be glad to know that update 2.0 is a free upgrade to the game, so you’ll definitely want to know how much space it will be taking up too. Also worth knowing that an SSD will be essential, as the updated system requirements tell us.

Cyberpunk 2.0 update download size

The Cyberpunk 2.0 update has finally arrived, and we’ve got the exact file size details for you PC players on Steam. As you can see in the image below, the download size is 25.4GB, while the complete size when unpacked on your drive will be 55.8GB.

For PS5, we’ve seen people reporting that the download size is just 17.5GB. It seems like the Xbox download is a little bit delayed, though it shouldn’t be too long before that is available as well.

This tweet from PlayStation Game Size brings up some important information. It actually shows that the base game will slightly reduce in size for the update to 56.4GB, but this will no doubt be due to optimization rather than removed content. That still means that there will be a download size, as fresh files will be downloaded, as we’ve seen on Steam. The same tweet shows that the total download with Phantom Liberty (PL) included will be 89.3GB, meaning the DLC is around 35GB in size.

We’ve seen users point out that the PS store update lists PL as 0kb, which could imply that the DLC itself will come with the 2.0 patch and is later unlocked when you pay for it, at least on PS5. This definitely seems unusual but not out of the question, though it does mean wasted space if you don’t actually have plans to buy the DLC. If this was indeed the case, the Cyberpunk 2.0 update download size would be around 35GB as we said. Not massively surprising once you know what’s coming. However, given it’s now released and weighs in around 17GB on PS5, we expect the PL store listing to be updated when the time comes to download.

Can you preload the Cyberpunk 2.0 patch?

Unfortunately there isn’t a chance to preload the 2.0 patch right now, though pre-loading for Phantom Liberty will be available 48 hours prior to its release on PS5 and Xbox as this official account tweet reveals, no news for PC players though. Even though it’s a sizeable one, it is just a patch after all, so preloads are less common for this kind of thing compared to DLC.

That means you should instead be wondering about when you can start downloading the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 patch. Well, that will be ‘close to the end of’ an official stream from the developers celebrating the release, as Cyberpunk’s Senior Community Manager reveals in a tweet. The stream in question will be going live at 07:00 PDT / 10:00 EDT / 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST, so we’re desperately close the release time now.

Cyberpunk 2.0 FAQs

Do I need an SSD for Cyberpunk 2.0?

As per the updated system requirements, CD Projekt Red announced that the game’s minimum requirements will require an SSD.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the game won’t run on your HDD, but loading will be slow and hard drives will no longer be tested internally from now on.

Is Cyberpunk 2.0 file size the same as Phantom Liberty?

No, Phantom Liberty is a DLC separate from the base game, Cyberpunk 2077. The 2.0 patch to Cyberpunk will be a free update the game with some revamps and changes, while the (optional, paid) DLC will add much more additional content.
