While many fans would think the player count for Call of Duty MW2 is only going up, they’d not be as correct as they’d think. Looking at the Steam Charts for MW2 shows bad news for Activision, because the player count on Steam has never been this low before.

The closest count we have to May is April, and then March, so it’s a clear downward slope. In fact, the game hasn’t had an upward trajectory since its peak in November 2022. You’ll be amazed by how low the game has fallen.

Is this still a popular game?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 player count in May

According to Steam Charts, the average player count for MW2 was 63,995.2. That’s almost 20k lower than April, which was at 81,332.1. This is a clear drop for the Steam player base.

We know that there will be many saying player counts fluctuate, which is true, but this isn’t fluctuation. Below is a table showing exactly what has happened since the only time the game peaked in November of 2022.

That’s a clear fall and a downward trajectory that is only getting worse. We haven’t seen a constant drop like this before in a Call of Duty game. Normally, there is real fluctuation based on update releases and patches. However, it doesn’t appear like the updates are enough.

While Steam doesn’t hold the main player base, since Activision has its own launcher. It does make you wonder if this is reflective of the overall player numbers.
