Fans of the Call of Duty franchise from Activision have been rewarded well this year with plenty of updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.

With the release of Season 4 for both Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0, including plenty of new weapons, a new map Vondel, and a new battle pass, fans are wondering what else is in the future for Warzone 2, and more Call of Duty news.

But with the future coming, the past must be left behind, and you might be wondering what will happen to Warzone 1, known as Warzone Caldera. Will Warzone 1 be shutting down? We’re here to let you know.

Will Warzone 1 be shutting down?

Yes, it’s confirmed that Warzone 1, also known as Warzone Caldera, will be shutting down servers on September 21, 2023. This was confirmed by the official Call of Duty Twitter in a tweet on June 22.

The game will no longer be playable after this date, including the online services, progression, achievements, inventories, and all associated content with the game will no longer be accessible. Any skin purchases will also not be accessible, as well.

The developers cited that they want to focus on the future with Warzone 2 and continually update the sequel with more content and gameplayer for players. By choosing to focus on Warzone 2, and a smooth launch for future content, Warzone 1 will no longer be feasible to maintain.

Luckily, this does not come with any changes for Warzone 2, which is a separate game, so even on the date Warzone 1 is shut down, Warzone 2 will continue to run as its own game.

Warzone Caldera has not received any major updates since Warzone 2 dropped, and the game has been seeing gamers leaving for the newest iteration of the game in droves. With launches for Battle Royale and other updates for the new Warzone 2, its maps like Al Mazrah, Las Almas, and Rebirth Island, and constant updates, it’s easy to see why fans have abandoned the original Warzone for the newest free-to-play Call of Duty multiplayer title.

For the time being, Call of Duty players can still download Warzone Caldera, install the game, and play, but once Warzone’s shut down comes, the first Warzone servers shut down for good.
