Final Fantasy 14 is all about working your way through the various expansions, but many franchise fans would like to know if the game is pay to win. This is due to the Mog Station and your ability to purchase various items with real money, not in-game currency.

Since Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn and its first expansion, Heavensward, there have been various new additions, such as Shadowbringers, Stormblood, and Endwalker. Along with these expansions came new jobs and even more combat. But is there a way to get ahead of the crowd? Follow this guide to learn if Final Fantasy 14 is pay to win.

Does Final Fantasy 14 have Pay to Win?

Final Fantasy XIV is not pay-to-win. In many MMORPGs, paying for better items is not uncommon to get a lead in the game. While Final Fantasy is subscription-based, and you will have to pay a monthly subscription fee, you cannot buy any rare weapons such as Relics or other items to help you win the game.

However, FFXIV will have multiple in-game items you can purchase from the Mog Station. Here, by using real money, you can buy the following items:

  • Costume Sets
  • Dyes
  • Tools
  • Housing items
  • Minions
  • Orchestrion Rolls
  • Face Paint
  • Fashion Accessories.
  • Extra Retainers

However, you can buy items that will increase your level in specific jobs. However, there will be many restrictions in place on you when you choose to purchase these items.

For example, items can not be used outside large settlements, as it will result in an automatic logout. Some accessories cannot be used during PvP matches, dungeons, or raids. Though it may be beneficial to increase your level for a job and skip the main story, it will not be helpful in the long run.

You can purchase weapons and armor; however, these are purely cosmetic with Basic rarity and capped at Level 1. To really prove your worth in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14, you have to enter numerous PvE battles and forgo the story skips.
