The newest season of Epic Game’s insanely popular battle royale shooter, Fortnite, has finally come out. Chapter 4 Season 3, appropriately called Wilds, takes you into the new jungle biome for plenty of action.

There’s all sorts to do in the latest update, with new NPCs, a fan-favorite mechanic’s return to the game, and a brand new battle pass to earn those sweet rewards.

If you want to join in the action but own a Chromebook, have no fear. We’re here to tell you how you can play Fortnite on a Chromebook.

Fortnite – How to play on a Chromebook

While the Chromebook is unfortunately not the optimal device to play Fortnite on, it can still be done and this method is completely free; downloading the Fortnite APK to play the Android version. The gameplay will not be the best it can be due to hardware and file storage, but it’s great if you don’t have access to PC or console.

The Android version of Fortnite will be what you use, so you can play on your Chromebook without having to download the free-to-play game on another platform.

Download the Fortnite APK

The first method we’ll go over is downloading the Fortnite APK onto your Chromebook so you can run the Android version. Here’s what you will need to do:

  • Restart your Chromebook
  • Enable Developer Mode and change Chrome’s outlook to mobile on your Chromebook by going into settings, hitting Ctrl + Shift = J, and then Ctrl + Shift + M to set it to the mobile version
  • You can now access the Google Play Store
  • Go into Chromebook’s settings and enable Apps installation from Play Store under the Apps icon
  • Click More
  • Click I agree
  • Go back into the App Settings and enable instillation from unknown sources under Security, as this will stop the Chrome OS from preventing Fortnite’s installation
  • You will need to install a File Manager App on your Chromebook for Fortnite, so find one in the Google Play Store like File Manager, and install it
  • Now you can install the Android version of Fortnite
  • Open your file manager by hitting its button or icon
  • Install the Fortnite APK file in the file manager
  • Launch Fortnite and play!

This is how you can play the Android version of Fortnite using the Fortnite APK in the Google Play Store. This method is completely free and doesn’t require any subscriptions or other hardware besides the file manager you will have to download.

You can also play Fortnite with Nvidia GeForce Now, the cloud-based streaming service, to access Fortnite on your Chromebook and play it. You will have to have a subscription set up, though, so this method is not free. However, you will get access to other games through this cloud-gaming platform.

To play Fortnite on Nvidia GeForce Now, all you’ll have to do is set up an Nvidia GeForce account and subscription, then download Fortnite from the Nvidia GeForce Now website and log in to your Epic Games account. Then you can run Fortnite with no trouble, on any browser you prefer. We recommend using the Chrome browser, though.

Both of these methods allow you to successfully play Fortnite on your Chromebook so you can join in the action of Chapter 4 Season 3 on your preferred device.

Can I play Fortnite on a Chromebook?

Yes, Fortnite is playable on Chromebooks by downloading the Fortnite APK and installing it to play the Android version, or through an Nvidia GeForce Now account that you can download the game with.

Which method is free to play Fortnite on Chromebook?

Downloading the Fortnite APK is the free method for playing Fortnite on your Chromebook, but be aware that the method takes more time to set up and requires you to change settings on your Chromebook.
