Fortnite, the immensely popular battle royale game developed by Epic Games, continues to captivate millions of players worldwide with its ever-evolving gameplay and exciting updates. When does the new season Start?
The next season of Fortnite is predicted to begin on August 25, 2023. The new season will be Chapter 4 Season 4, of which we have very little information, but based on in-game screenshots like the one shown above, the current Season 3 could end on August 25 at 2am EST, meaning the new season will pick up where it left off.
The current season of Fortnite Battle Royale, Season 3, began on Friday, June 9, while the previous Season 2 ended the same day a few hours earlier. The game was down for the update for those hours between seasons, so it’s reasonable to believe that a very similar course of events will happen for Season 3 to Season 4, as well, with downtime taking place in between seasons.

How do Fortnite seasons work?
Like many other games, Fortnite operates on a seasonal model, where each season introduces a new Battle Pass with different rewards, new NPCs, changes to the Fortnite map, and limited-time events that players can partake in.
Since the game had its first season, aptly named Season 1, which began on October 26, 2017, each season has lasted about 10 to 12 weeks before commencing a new season. All Fortnite seasons are grouped within chapters, which have varying lengths:
- Chapter 1 – 10 Seasons
- Chapter 2 – 8 Seasons
- Chapter 3 – 4 Seasons
It’s currently unknown how many seasons the current Fortnite Chapter 4 will have, but a pattern can be seen that shows that each chapter has been getting shorter. Unless Epic Games decides to break the mold, Chapter 4 could have four seasons or even fewer.
Fortnite seasons will sometimes have a theme they revolve around, like bounty hunters or aliens. The current Season 3 theme is the wilds, being jungle and tropical areas themed. This is because a new biome was added to the map, and the season focuses on this new area of the game.
Not all seasons will include a theme, as some will instead focus solely on new story progression and lore, or they will focus on crossover events with other media, like the Marvel crossover event in Chapter 2 Season 4.
