Fortnite Timber Pines: How to find and complete the knock down challenge
A new seasonal challenge requires you to knock down a specific type of tree

One of Fortnite’s Chapter 3, Season 1 seasonal challenges requires you to take advantage of one of the newest game mechanics added to the game. So let’s find out where to find and knock down Timber Pines in Fortnite.
Many fans have said Fortnite’s Chapter 3, Season 1 feels like playing a whole new game, with not only a brand new map, but also a bunch of all-new game mechanics, such as swinging from Spiderman’s Web-Shooters, the ability to open vaults with chickens, and new trees which can be more realistically knocked down, as opposed to simply disintegrating. This latter mechanic is the focus of one of the most recent seasonal challenges – and this article.
What are Timber Pines and where can you find them?
Not all trees can be knocked down, and therefore not all trees will count towards the Fortnite “Knock down 5 Timber Pines” challenge. However, it is a pretty simple challenge to complete once you know what you are looking for.
The Timber Pines in question, first and foremost, are pines, meaning they can only be found in the snowy areas of the map. They are concentrated in and around most of the northwestern corner of the island – which is still covered in a layer of snow. As you head towards Greasy Grove, the forestry becomes more oak-like, and then cacti take over into the drier Chonker’s Speedway. Over on the green side of the map, again, you’ll come across the more familiar, bushier, oak-like trees. In the map below, we have highlighted just some of the areas you are most likely to find the specific pine trees you need, such as Logjam Lumberyard and east of Shifty Shafts.
Once you’re surrounded by pines, you’ll be able to tell which are the ones you are after by looking at them. The knockable pines are lighter in color, with a slightly ashy/snowy looking trunk. The trunk is also very straight, and quite smooth-looking, on these large, interactive trees.
How to knock down Timber Pines in Fortnite
Once you find one of these Timber Pines, simply hit it with your pickaxe as you would any tree. You’ll still gather resources from it as normal, but instead of disappearing in a puff of bark, the tree will now split and fall, with its large timber trunk crashing to the ground. This mechanic can then further be used to your advantage, as it will destroy items in its path, cause damage to players, and even float downstream if it rolls into a river.
One player, back when the season first started, was even lucky enough to use the new mechanic to get a stylish Victory Royale, killing their final opponent with a falling tree. Check out the game clip in our original article.
