Forza Motorsport 8 is the latest in the long running racing franchise. The hit game from Turn 10 Studios and Xbox Game Studios has an official launch coming soon, but players are wondering one thing after the trailer reveal at Xbox Games Showcase: Is it next-gen only?
Is Forza Horizon 8 a new-gen exclusive?
Yes, Forza Motorsport 8 is technically a new-gen exclusive. It is only available for the Xbox Series X|S and PC. For some games, such as NBA 2K24, the PC is not considered among the next-gen platforms. However, it seems to be for Forza.
This is because it’s not available on the Xbox One. Forza Motorsport 7, and previous entries for both Motorsport and Forza Horizon, were available on both Xbox consoles. It has never been restricted like this until now. That suggests that the game developers have included new gameplay that won’t work on the weaker Xbox One.
If it weren’t an Xbox exclusive, it would stand to reason that the game would be available on PlayStation 5, but not PlayStation 4 and not Nintendo Switch, either. Fans of the game will need to have a PC or Xbox Series X|S when the release date arrives.
The hit racing simulation game will not be on last-gen. They will have to resort to older racing games or different franchises than this one. Microsoft is not porting it to previous consoles, which means that the physics, graphics, and more will be top notch. Even if those players have Xbox Game Pass, they will not be able to download and run the new Forza Motorsport in October.
The game has been designed with ray tracing, a new layout, Dolby Atmos audio and so much more. The next Forza Motorsport game is clearly a feat of development, which limits the consoles that can run it properly.
Rather than design it separately for older consoles, they decided to force Forza fans into the new era of gaming.
