Lui Kang has brought us into the new universe with Mortal Kombat 1, the game following Mortal Kombat 11, the newly ordained God of Fire has forged this new universe filled with stunning stages, and characters sliding their way into our consoles.
Summer Games Fest 2023 started off with a bang with a full-length trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, giving us a release date of September 19 2023.
It’s safe to say that fans will be ready for another flawless victory coming their way. With the Mortal Kombat franchise spanning generations now, the first game release being in 1992, it has been a staple of gamers archives. 31 years later, Mortal Kombat 1 looks to bring this beloved franchise into the future of gaming, with new stages mixed with classic characters it is set to usher in the newest generation of gamers into the classic fighter style.
With a whole new gaming style including “Kameos” alongside the classic one-on-one fighter style that Mortal Kombat is famous for, this is set to be an exciting addition to Mortal Kombat Universe for fans old and new.
One exciting addition that will bring a fresh twist to the game is the inclusion of Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo Fighters. These are separate characters who serve as assist characters and, based on NetherRealm’s showcased footage, feature the classic versions of Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Scorpion. These iconic fighters don their earliest costumes and solely function as assist characters. They make dynamic appearances during matches, providing support to players with just a simple button press, as explained by Boon.
While NetherRealm has yet to disclose the complete roster size for Mortal Kombat 1, a menu screen dedicated to Kameo Fighters suggests that this particular roster will consist of at least 16 characters.

We are expecting much more on the game as time goes on, but it looks like this is even more brutal than previous games in the series. Even Lui Kang and Raiden use their God powers to take on the newer fightings in the upcoming Mortal Kombat tournament.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. This highly anticipated game marks the franchise’s first new instalment since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019, developed by NetherRealm in collaboration with Warner Bros.
