Link can swim in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but doing so uses stamina. With the vast amount of ponds and lakes you’ll come across in the game, swimming just won’t cut it. Your best bet is to build a raft to get across as they’re faster and you won’t risk drowning by using one. Here’s what you need to know about using rafts in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to move a raft in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Moving a raft can be done using weapons, Zonai devices, and abilities Link learns from Rauru on Great Sky Island. To move the raft around, can use the Ultrahand ability — found in the Ukouh Shrine, the first shrine of the game.

While the Fuse ability, found in the In-isa Shrine, is used to attach the necessary parts to it. Parts can range from fans, rockets, big wheels, planks of wood, and sails. Another way to move a raft is by using the Recall ability — found in the Nachoyah Shrine — to rewind time and reverse the direction of rafts.

If you are in need of a raft and don’t see any around, there are many ways to build one with Zonai equipment and objects found around the open world. If you don’t have any Zonai devices with you, one of the most basic ways to move a raft comes from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This method requires you to have a fan and a sail. If you don’t have a fan, you can make one by using Fuse to attach a stick with a Korok Frond.

Open your inventory by pressing the D-Pad to select the items you need. Fusing the items will reward Link with a fan he can use to blow wind into a sail attached to a raft. Just stand on the main platform, whether it be a single tree stump or multiple, aim the fan at the sail, and attack with Y.

Once you do gain access to Zonai devices such as fans, you can Fuse them to the back of the raft and activate them by striking them with a weapon or shooting them with a bow and arrow. You could also go for a more direct and faster approach by attaching a rocket to the raft. While fusing together Zonai Big Wheels with planks of wood makes for a slower-moving raft but allows for more control if you use a Zonai Steering Stick.

Using the Recall ability you get from the final shrine on the first island is a great method for moving rafts as well. While the ability is mainly used for rewinding cogs and gears to open closed doors and climb to new areas, it will reverse the flow of time for rafts in the water. This allows Link to hop aboard a raft and ride it back through time to continue questing.

To be completely honest, you can use just about any object to make a raft. While the traditional raft you’ll find in the wild is made out of wood, most anything will work. Minecarts, carts, treasure chests, and even wood or stone pillars can be used to build your raft. We suppose you could even use several shields to create one if you felt the need.
