With the latest DLC for Elden Ring now announced, fans are already hypothesising what the Shadow of the Erdtree might be about. Miquella will be the focus, many are saying. However, after being treated one free DLC already, many players are wondering, is Shadow of the Erdtree DLC free too?
Well, the good news is that a price has now been announced, so you can get straight to instead wondering: what is the Erdtree in Elden Ring? On the flipside, the bad news is of course that it won’t come for free. There’s some time to go before it’s out, so do check our best CPU, GPU, and gaming laptop for Elden Ring guides while you wait.
Is Shadow of the Erdtree DLC free? In short, no
The announcement for a new DLC expansion for Elden Ring was made on the last day of February 2023. In said announcement, very little was revealed, including the release date and cost. However, with a Steam store page now up for the Erdtree DLC, we can see that will cost you $39.99, or £34.99 if you’re based in the UK. This is based off the pre-purchase price which earns you a couple of exclusive goodies.

Our previous prediction
People were theorising about the price since the initial announcement. This seems to have far more expanded content than what the previous PvP Colosseum DLC had. Spoilers ahead. In the image we were given, we can see the charred remains of the Erdtree. This is from after the events of the endgame in the main story.
Considering that, this could take place after the game’s main events. We could potentially be looking at a much larger expansion. One that could potentially mean spending money. Our previous ballpark prediction for this, considering the price of older DLCs for games like Dark Souls 3, would be about $15-19.99. How wrong we were.
