Bungie’s first new project in years, Marathon was revealed at the PlayStation showcase to fans. With the studio having games like Halo and Destiny in its catalog, Marathon is planning to live up to the high expectations that have been set. While not a direct sequel, the new title is set in the same universe as the classic franchise.

This is everything we know about Bungie’s Marathon so far!

Marathon window prediction

There is no official release date for Marathon yet. The studio is hard at work, but has stated that there is plenty of work to do before launch still. More information will be coming up in the future. When we receive a release date, we’ll update this article.

However, based on the lack of information on the game, we can assume it won’t be out until 2024.

Marathon Platforms

Marathon will be released on the following platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • PC

The game will have full cross-play capability, so fans will be able to play with friends even on other platforms. There is no word if the game is planned to be released on any other platforms.

Marathon Plot

From the Marathon website, the team based extraction shooter will be set on a ghost ship in orbit above a lost colony on planet Tau Ceti IV. The 30,000 inhabitants of this massive ship have disappeared without a trace. Lost in the ship will be plenty of riches such as mysterious artifacts, dormant AI, and much more.

The player will take the role of a Runner, a synthetic body that humans can shift their consciousness between for endeavors like looting. You’ll play player against player in teams for loot, exploration, and the chance to become rich and famous. Each match played has the ability to uncover new parts of the story and change everything.

The game won’t require you to have played the original Marathon trilogy by Bungie, but for those who have, there will be a plethora of easter eggs and lore hints that will be able to be discovered.

Bungie always delivers on the first person shooting experience with smooth as silk mechanics, deep rich lore, and great multiplayer gameplay, and Marathon is promising to only add to their famous catalog.
