Call of Duty Warzone has had a great deal of metas, but there are some that the community hates. The worst one was arguably the DMR 14 meta. There was a lot of frustration and anger felt by players during this meta.

Remember how awful this one was? Players were constantly trying to get their hands on a DMR 14 as soon as the game started, leading to a lot of fights over one gun. Because of this dislike, developers intervened and changed the meta in order to make the game more enjoyable.

But that backfired.

The worst meta in Call of Duty Warzone

For those who don’t know, late 2020 to early 2021, there was a DMR 14 meta that was characterized by the use of the DMR 14 marksman rifle, which was a weapon that was introduced into the game after the integration of the Cold War weapons from Black Ops into the game.

With just one magazine, this weapon could take out entire vehicles from a distance of up to 200 meters. One Reddit user _TheVengeful_ posted this meta on Reddit to remind everyone of this OP monstrosity.

If you had a group of people with the DMR 14, there was absolutely no team that could stop you. These were legitimately sweeping teams in seconds, and with aimbot it was over quickly. With low recoil and high accuracy, it was a weapon that pretty much anyone could use.

That took away the real skill in firefights.

The DMR 14 was a nightmare for those who faced it on the battlefield. Some players felt that the weapon was simply too powerful, leaving them helpless and unable to fight back against opponents equipped with it.

Due to intense frustration, many players quit the game during DMR 14 or spent less time playing the game because of it. It takes a bad meta to break a community that way, but the DMR 14 was a different kind of broken.

An easy way to tell that a community hates something is if it trends on Twitter. During this time, some players even took to social media to vent their frustrations, with hashtags like #RemoveTheDMR trending on Twitter.

Activision did try to balance the DMR 14, but it didn’t really help anything. They reduced the weapon’s headshot damage, increased its recoil, and decreased its effective range, among other changes.

After the DMR 14 meta, many players were disappointed and angry. It serves as a reminder of the challenges of balancing a game like Warzone. This is where even the smallest changes can have a huge impact on the gameplay experience.
