Seel and Dewgong are two of the original generation of Pokémon, so we’d like to think they’re available in Pokémon GO. However, since not every Pokémon available in Pokémon can be discovered in its shiny form, let’s find out if Seel is one of them.

Can Seel be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Seel, the Sea Lion Pokémon, was the 86th Pokémon to ever exist of what is now well over 800 – and counting. A water Pokémon, according to its Pokédex entry, Seel loves the cold, and evolves into an Ice/Water dual-type Pokémon.

But, more importantly, can shiny Seel be caught in Pokémon GO? Well, yes! The good news is that Seel is available in Pokémon GO, and has been since May 2019. However, a fairly rare Pokémon GO encounter, Seel is still not a common shiny despite its three years in the game.

Can Dewgong be shiny in Pokémon GO?

As Seel can be shiny in Pokémon GO, its evolutionary counterpart, Dewgong, can too. However, you’ll need a shiny Seel in order to evolve a shiny Dewgong. We’d always recommend waiting until you’ve caught two shiny Seel’s, though, so you can make sure you’re evolving the best one – if that sort of thing matters to you!

How to evolve Seel into Dewgong in Pokémon GO

As with most Gen 1 Pokémon, the evolution process for Seel is pretty simple. All you’ll need to evolve your shiny Seel to a shiny Dewgong is 50 Seel Candies. If you’ve been playing for a long time, you’ll more than likely have this already, but if not, you’ll need to try and catch Seel during events, as it’s fairly rare on a day-to-day basis.

The next event featuring Seel will be on May 24, 2022, when the adorable seal Pokémon will be the feature of Pokémon GO’s weekly Spotlight Hour. Trainers will also have access to double catch Stardust that day, too, so make the most of the event , taking place between 6 and 7pm local time.

Are all Gen 1 shiny Pokémon available in Pokémon GO?

As a matter of fact, yes! Now we’re into Gen 7 in Pokémon GO, the original generation have now all been released in their shiny variants. However, there are still lots of Pokémon that haven’t, and lots that haven’t even made their non-shiny Pokémon GO debut, so there’s still loads to come for those still playing the six-year-old mobile game.
