Nintendo announces Super Mario Wonder with outlandish new abilities

Nintendo was on a roll during the June Nintendo Direct with multiple Mario games getting announced. While they were all interesting, none of them compare to the upcoming Super Mario Wonder game.

Super Mario Wonder will be the next new Mario game to grace the Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. The new Mario game is a side-scrolling adventure much like games of the past but this time with an interesting animation style that is unlike any Mario game we have played.

The levels shown in the trailer featured multiple new locales around the Mushroom Kingdom with moving pipes, talking flowers, and hippo-looking foes.

Plenty of abilities were shown off in the trailer with Mario having the ability to grow and shrink, turn into a spike ball, and even transform into an elephant. That’s right, we said elephant. Eating a special elephant-shaped apple will transform Mario into an elephant just like how he could don a cat costume before and obtain cat powers.

The highlight of the trailer is the use of the Wonder Flower. Wonder Flowers have the ability to change the world around you. Interacting with one could make the ground warp, transform Mario into another creature, or even cause the objects around you to come alive.

Part of the world-changing events showcased showed the world turning dark and becoming flat like in the game Limbo. Other parts showed Mario running for his life across a herd of stampeding animals.

Perhaps the biggest news about Super Mario Wonder is the characters that are playable. As shown in the trailer, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and even Daisy will all be playable. This is the first time Daisy has been a playable character in a main-line Mario game and not a spin-off.

Nintendo will share more information about Super Mario Wonder as the October release date approaches. Get ready to experience the wonder.
