Zombies is a popular addition to any Call of Duty game. The match type is so beloved by fans, Activision retooled it as a match type between players. Instead of facing down undead AI, players defend against other infected players in Infected matches. Infected is bigger and badder in Season 3 Reloaded with the Giant Infection game mode.

If you want to join in the fun and take a bite out of the competition, here’s what you need to know about Giant Infection in Call of Duty.

What is Modern Warfare 2 Giant Infection?

Giant Infection is a match type set on a large battle map where an infected player attempts to kill others, thus turning them into infected. Imagine playing a normal game on Al Mazrah but instead of eliminating players to win the match, the focus is to not get infected.

It’s sort of like zombies but instead of facing down hordes of the undead, players must survive long enough without getting infected. The timed match starts out with the players acting as survivors. As the clock counts down, players are chosen at random to be the infected. Their soul purpose is to hunt down the remaining players and turn them to other infected before time ends. Survivors are not aware who the first infected are until the infected start killing.

When the Giant Infection match starts, everyone drops in like normal. They collect gear and prepare to defend themselves against infected players. As soon as the first infected are chosen, the fun begins. Infected are free to open fire on survivors and only win by turning every other player to their side. Once an infected is killed, they respawn with parachutes and dive back into the match. Once a survivor is killed, they become an infected and add to the horde.

When half of the survivors remain on the map, a UAV will appear showing the location of noninfected players.

When was Infected first introduced?

Infected, otherwise known as Sickness first appeared in Modern Warfare 3 in 2011. It was originally intended as an April Fools’ Day match type but was so well received it became a full game mode later on.
