With other versions of the Zelda being released on previous systems, Nintendo has many different consoles now but ones will you be able to get your hands-on the Breath of the Wild sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on? Will you be able to play in Hyrule it through Wii U from launch day? The new extension to the Zelda franchise is on the horizon and we bet you’re looking to see exactly how you can get your hands on it!

Is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom come to Wii U?

Unfortunately, the graphic for this article is just a quick mock-up so in short, no, even though Wii U is a Nintendo console it is not currently confirmed to be gaining access to the vast land of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as Nintendo has announced that it will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive game and has recently closed the Wii U shop.

This is nothing surprising for a Nintendo title since the company’s games are rarely available on anything except its own Nintendo switch family of systems.

As such, The Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay will not be a supported title on Wii U or any other console  other than The Switch, The Switch OLED, and The Switch Lite at the moment and you will have to purchase the game for one of these consoles to play Link’s new abilities and his new adventure.

Why isn’t The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Wii U?

It’s an older console, and we’re far past this generation. With the limitations on software, it’d be hard to generate new weapons, hyrule castle, the vast skies, or even shields in this epic adventure. Just looking at any new trailer shows that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the kingdom game would be too much on any console during the Wii U era.

The official answer is that it’ll be on none other than The Switch, but as we saw with other releases such as Breath of the Wild which eventually made its way to PC via emulation and it may be only a matter of time before a preview of Tears of the Kingdom follows this.

This game is however completely optimized and designed for gameplay and combat on Switch as we have seen in the trailers so although you may in the future be able to play some version of it on other consoles, that doesn’t mean you should, you would be losing out on all the small details, the weapons optimisations and switch specific gaming style that has been poured into this vast game.

Plus would you really want to see Ganondorf on a larger screen? Those of you who connect your Switch to the PC might, but we prefer our bow and swords portable.
