Are the RTX 4060 Ti and 4060 future proof?

With the newer addition to the Ada series of graphics cards, you may wonder, if the RTX 4060 Ti and 4060 are future proof? As a new generation of best graphics cards, you’d expect them to last you sometime and hope for the final selection of GPU for good performance. But for that, Nvidia might be limiting your options and capabilities of this.
Since even the best RTX 4060 Ti will still have the same memory configuration as all the others. Which itself is 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6, the limiting factor is the memory bus on the GPU. Although it is clocked in at 18 Gbps, it’s across a 128-bit bus. Which means it has a bandwidth of 288GB/s. The same is the case for the 4060, even though that’s even got a lower bandwidth still.
Whereas the RTX 3060 Ti is 160GB/s faster due to the wider bus. So in the reviews, we have seen a lack of high-resolution performance. The cards are advertised for 1080p and fall to their own predecessor at some 1440p and 4k games. As such the only thing making them more worthwhile is the DLSS 3 and frame generation inclusion. But that is not great for raw performance when it is not included and the price isn’t reflective of pure rasterization.
Why aren’t the 4060 Ti and 4060 future proof?
The reason the RTX 4060s are not future proof is due to the next gen of gaming graphics coming out. With the likes of Jedi Survivor and Last of Us releasing on PC with bad performance and experiences, we have seen the need for better memory implementations.
Since these games are primarily targeting consoles that are better equipped with video memory and optimization, PCs do lack that. This means the texture quality and capacity required grows and so should the video memory on GPUs. But that falls behind on low end graphics cards.
This does mean that in a few years when new consoles come out, or newer games come out, a low bandwidth GPU isn’t going to fare well. That means going for an older choice that has gone down in price is a better future proof choice. Limited by the lower memory option they have gone for at the price they ask for.
