At the top of the Zen 2 Matisse lineup, there is some good power to use up. And still, on the long-lasting AM4 platform, there are a lot of appeals to it. But what GPU bottlenecks Ryzen 9 3950X?

The Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores and 32 threads. It offers incredible parallel computing power to perform the most demanding task and multitask. PCIe 4.0 lets you make the most of next-generation SSDs as well as the next-generation of graphics cards.

The CPU is built on the 7nm process. Creating an IO die size of 124mm² with 7.6 billion transistors. With a 3.5 GHz frequency and it can turbo up to 4.7 GHz. Whilst the processor has a TDP of 105W.

What GPU bottlenecks Ryzen 9 3950X?

So in terms of the bottleneck calculator, the biggest GPU bottleneck will be at the lowest resolution. This means the performance level of the two doesn’t match and you have a bit of left-out performance.

So when it comes to a top-end CPU like the 3950X, any lower-end, entry-point graphics cards will hold back the ability of the processor. Matching a top-end CPU with a lower-end card doesn’t make too much sense even without bottlenecking.

So for the Ryzen 9 3950X, the RTX 3060 Ti is a close match for the processor but will still hold it back a bit. The card is a popular choice for the Ampere lineup of cards but on the lower end. Aimed at 1080p and pushing some 1440p.

On a similar level is the RX 6600 XT from the Radeon lineup. It’s also on the same level as the Nvidia card. So they will both be a bit too weak for what the CPU is capable of.

That also means any lower-level cards will run into the same issue. Whilst on the other end of the spectrum, there may be a few cards that are too powerful for that processor.

So a GPU too powerful for the CPU may be on the top of the lineup. Especially with newer hardware, so something such as the RTX 4090 or RX 7900 XTX isn’t a good match for the older CPU.
