AMD has released its software development kit for a range of FidelityFX tech for game developers to more easily add them. GPUOpen is AMD’s section that provides this feature and plenty of other software to developers, such as any information on the likes of FSR 3.

FidelityFX is the branding behind the technology that AMD does provide in games with FidelityFX Super Resolution for upscaling specifically. but that’s just part of it. Now this allows for much easier and quicker integration of them into games and provides a greater range of options. Much like the Nvidia GameWorks library that encompasses plenty of technologies in one like DLSS.

The features of the SDK are to provide a more user-friendly experience to implement the technologies and focus on details rather than setup. Re-architectured framework to be a more robust and ready option for multiple tags at the same time. There are now also pre-built solutions for all the effects with only needing 20 lines of code to be added in.

This should provide easier integration and allow for other technologies to be implemented if it takes less time. Especially since AMD has got flack for excluding competitor technologies into games.

For the included software in the FidelityFX SDK, you get three new ones along with 10 already existing offerings.

  • (New) FidelityFX Blur 1.0 – highly optimized Gaussian blur technique implemented into HLSL
  • (New) FidelityFX Depth of Field 1.0 – DoF to recreate the bokeh effect of camera lenses
  • (New) FidelityFX Lens 1.0 – lightweight shader with lens and film effects, currently includes chromatic aberration, vignette, and film grain.
  • FidelityFX CACAO 1.3 – implementation of ambient occlusion, integrated intelligent and adaptive sampling techniques to have good quality and high performance
  • FidelityFX CAS 1.1 – a low overhead adaptive sharpening algorithm with optional upsampling for sharpening without artifacts
  • FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) – AMD upscaling technology producing high res images from low-res inputs
  • FidelityFX LPM 1.3 – Luminance Preserving Mapper is tone mapping for HDR and wide gamut content
  • FidelityFX Parallel Sort 1.2 – compute-based radix sort for particles and other data sets
  • FidelityFX SPD 2.1 – RDNA optimized option for creating up to 12 MIP levels more streamlined without intermediate steps
  • FidelityFX SSSR 1.4 & Denoiser 1.2 – Stochastic Screen Space Reflections that are hierarchical screen space traversal kernel for reflections, for good representation without cost. Denoiser for shaders to remove artifacts of reflection and shadows, particularly for ray tracing and rasterization.
  • FidelityFX Variable Shading 1.1 – open source header implementation to easily integrate VSR in
  • FidelityFX Hybrid Reflections 1.1 – combines SSSR with ray tracing for high-quality reflections
  • FidelityFX Hybrid Shadows 1.1 – combine traditional rasterized shadows with ray tracing for fast and high-quality shadows
