AMD’s release schedule has been rather lackluster in the RDNA 3 architecture especially considering Nvidia’s GPU Ada range has been consistent. While Radeon has only had three options in the whole range with only the top and bottom tier satisfied. But now, we could finally see something a bit more appealing for Team Red in that mid-tier.

This information comes from Moore’s Law is Dead who has been following all the details as best as possible. With inside contacts, he has been following the development of the series and has the likely information on when and what to expect from the new Navi 21 processors since the development and drivers are supposedly ready.

RX 7800 and 7700 expected release date

The names are not fully confirmed as of yet, as these might be base models or XT variants and can still change up to the date of release. These are expected to be announced at Gamescom 2023, with a September 2023 release. The event takes place from the 23rd to the 27th of August and would give a week or two lead time for the release.

For the full N32 chip, it is expected to feature 60 compute units with 16GB of memory with a 256-bit bus. Clocked in at 19.5 Gbps it would also have a 260W TBP. Whereas the cut-down N32 the AMD GPU would have 48 or 54 CUs with 12GB of memory clocked at 19.5 Gbps, and with a power rating of 245W. There are also talks of a hybrid N31/32 chip, with a potential 70 CUs. Putting it in between the 7900 XT and N32 chip.

This delay is highly unusual as Nvidia takes the market with all the graphics cards it is releasing and filling in that gap. However, as Videocardz suggests it is likely due to the oversupply of RDNA 2 top end of Navi 31/32 processors as such it might be quite the lackluster launch cycle. Since the leaker also says after these GPUs launch it might be the last of the selection.

AMD confirms enthusiast GPUs in Q3 and Gamescom announcement

As Videocardz reports, AMD has in fact confirmed it is launching enthusiast-class Radeon 7000 GPUs in Q3 of the year. This was in the Q2 earnings call and Dr Su informed the recipients that they are on track to launch these new cards. This gives it two months total to release these cards (August and September), which would line up with the Gamescom likelihood.

The Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Graphics Business Unit at AMD, Scott Herkemna has tweeted about the team announcing its next major products at Gamescom. That will likely be the next GPU announcement expected to come at the German convention.
