Updates for CS2 have been a little sparse during the Paris Majors, that’s probably for good reason as Valve probably doesn’t want to take from that. There’s been a development in CS2, as posed on the CS2 news page by Valve this indicates that CS2 Workshop Tools are finally here.

Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools have arrived

Valve posted an update on the 6th of June stating that Workshop Tools had been added to CS2. But what are Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools exactly? The Workshop Tool is a toolkit available to the public that allows creators to make custom content for the game, and then upload it to the Steam Workshop for other players to enjoy.

CS2 workshop tools

It is unclear in this post whether the Workshop Tool is available to the broader public however it is unlikely, as the news post by Valve clearly states that you have to obtain this toolkit through in-game means. So only people that have access to the beta will be able to access these tools for now.

You can create weapon skins, stickers, maps, whatever your heart desires really, the word is your oyster.

It would be smart for Valve to release the CS2 Workshop Tools to the wider public before the release of CS2, just to get some community content out there from the get-go. However, we feel this is unlikely, as the wider public wouldn’t have any means to test their creations.

There’s also a new feature coming to the level editor tool.

The level editor now leverages GPU accelerated Ray tracing

First of all, Ray tracing hasn’t been officially confirmed until now and it’s an exciting affair, but back to the matter at hand.

The level editor, named Hammer, now leverages GPU-accelerated rendering techniques for Raytracing components, on capable GPUs, of course. This means that if you or any other creator decides to add an element of Ray tracing into your map then it won’t take you ages to compile, your GPU’s RT cores will do all the heavy lifting.

This will surely be a massive help to those talented individuals that can make complex maps a reality with just a Workshop Tool and a lot of imagination.

There has also been a massive change to how the weapon system works, you might want to take a look at that if this news interests you.
