CS:GO is running out of cases! One of the biggest appeals to CS:GO is the fact that players can outfit their arsenal with a plethora of unique skins of varying value. This is often used as a symbol of status for those who are in the know around skins.

However, the cases we use to obtain skins are facing a very large issue. We’re running out of cases.

This isn’t the only issue plaguing CS:GO right now, Steam servers are taking a hit because of the massive player count increase.

CS:GO is running out of cases

Thanks to the popularity of the Counter-Strike 2 announcement, CS:GO concurrent players are at an all-time high, 1,519,457 players to be exact according to SteamDB, as of the 16th of March 2023.

This influx of new players, as well as the old player’s passions, reignited by the announcement, has caused quite a stir in the CS:GO economy, not to mention the strain on the Steam servers. Because of all the new players, a lot more cases are being opened, in hopes of obtaining something mega that they can carry into CS2.

The issue is that we are opening as a collective way more cases than are being re-introduced back into circulation via case drops. According to CS:GO Case Tracker, we opened 44,995,815 within the span of a month. That’s insane

CSgo is running out of cases

Unfortunately, there’s no way that such a large number of cases is being re-introduced back into the economy within a month. Valve can’t simply just re-distribute a large number of cases to players or the Steam Market, as that will ruin the economy.

CS:GO is running out of skins: How do we get cases?

Anomaly 3 over on YouTube made an interesting video covering the subject, by Anomalies reckoning, there are around 2 drops per week for any one person when you play CS:GO often, these can be one of both of the following items:

  • Graffiti
  • Case
  • Skin

So there’s only a one in three chance you’re going to get a case each time. So best case scenario every player can grab 2 cases every week, but we all know that’s not going to happen. First of all, not everyone will play every day for a week, not everyone will get a case when the drop occurs, and not everyone puts cases up for sale. We’re not re-circulating enough cases.

Cases are already more than 5X their value in some variations, this needs to be sorted out.

What happens if CS:GO runs out of cases?

The way we see it one of two things will happen. Scenario one is bad, but scenario 2 is worse.

CSgo is running out of cases a big problem confused case

The first scenario sees Valve adding more CS:GO cases into circulation to stop players from losing interest in CS:GO and potentially CS2 because of the lack of skins, thus reducing the value of the case and all the skins on the Community Market.

Scenario 2 sees Case supplies completely rin dry and everyone starts fighting for case drops. We’ll see players that don’t care about skins listing cases for ridiculous prices and the skin community torn apart. and let’s face it, CS:GO can be toxic as it is, we don’t need any more help in that department.

Why can’t CS:GO just add more cases?

because, like every company, Valve (creator of CS:GO and Steam) likes money. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that. But re-introducing cases into the economy in a large amount will devalue the current skins and cases on the market (the more of something there is, the less valuable it is) simple supply and demand.

This isn’t as bad as players renouncing CS:GO forever because of ridiculous skin and case prices, but it’s certainly not ideal.

Final Word

CS:GO skins are a staple of the game, and are commodities that we don’t want to see disappear anytime soon.

We hope that either Valve figures out a way to solve this before it becomes a big problem, or case supplies last. We’re already seeing massive price hikes in Cases, let’s hope we don’t see any more. Feel free to comment down below with your thoughts on the recent CS:GO case issues.
