The newest Cyberpunk 2077 expansion has been turning heads in the industry since its announcements. This is mostly due to the stunning gameplay the trailer showcases and all the new content we’re going to be introduced to. For us, however, it’s the CPU requirement. The reason this is interesting is that the Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty DLC recommends a 7800X3D CPU.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC calls for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU

The reason this CPU requirement is interesting is the fact that we haven’t seen very many, or any games at all of that matter, that require a Ryzen X3D CPU. Much less a 7000 series X3D CPU. We’re not saying there are no games out there that ask for one, but there’s no reliable way to check.

Cyberpunk 2077 7800X3D specs

As you can see, the recommended specifications for the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, Phantom Liberty, state a Ryzen 7 7800X3D as the recommended CPU.

We wonder whether this choice was arbitrary, or if there’s a tangible performance reason for it. Will the DLC be optimized for AMD’s 3D V-Cache better than it will be for Intel CPUs? Maybe CD Projekt Red built the DLC using these processors. There are a lot of questions that are in need of answers.

We’ve reached out to CD Projekt Red in hopes that we can answer some of these CPU-based questions, and we await a response. But in the meantime, let’s brainstorm!

You can grab a Ryzen 7 7800X3D here if you want one and don’t already have one.

Why choose the Ryzen 7 7800X3D for the Phantom Liberty expansion?

As we mentioned before, there are a few reasons this could be. Firstly, we’d like to relate it to the recommended GPU.

Phantom Liberty recommends an RTX 2080 Super or AMD/Intel equivalent, which seems fairly disproportionate to the 7800X3D recommendation. Could this mean that CD Projekt Red is hinting that the expansion will be far more CPU intensive than it will GPU-intensive?

We’re well aware that this CPU recommendation could be a placeholder, but with the release around 2 months away, we feel confident in pinning the 7800X3D as the CPU that’s intended to be recommended.

Whatever the reason, we aim to get to the bottom of it, We want to know why CD Project Red recommends a Ryzen 7 7800X3D to us, and whether that means the 3D V-Cache will be particularly beneficial to the performance of the DLC.

What do you think? Do you own a CPU even close to the 7800X3D? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
