GreedFall Developer Spiders To Unveil New Game Next Week

GreedFall and Mars: War Logs developer Spiders is gearing up to announce its latest project. The news surfaced courtesy of a tweet published by the official Nacon Twitter handle, which teased a reveal on July 7th at 7 pm CEST/ 10 am PST as part of the French gaming peripheral and publishing company’s Nacon Connect event next week.

Nacon acquired Spiders back in July 2019, although most of the developer’s previous games, including the most recent release, GreedFall, were released by another French publishing powerhouse, Focus Home Interactive.

The announcement comes accompanied by an image that appears to depict the back of character clad in chain mail and an oddly futuristic backplate. Said character is brandishing (or is on the receiving end of) a weapon bearing multiple arrow-like fins. It doesn’t reveal all that much, but it has all the hallmarks of Spiders game, and the aesthetic quite easily aligns with that of GreedFall.

Could a sequel be in the works? There certainly is enough to GreedFall to expand the world and further its intriguing narrative in a sequel to last year’s game. Yet, Spiders isn’t exactly known for pumping out sequels or even series and prefers to explore different worlds and push out new IPs with each successive release. Of the eight games Spiders have developed since forming in 2008, none of them return to the same franchise. Spiders’ portfolio includes Sherlock Holmes Versus Jack The Ripper, Faery: Legends of Avalon, Gray Matter, Of Orcs and Men, Mars: War Logs, Bound by Flame, The Technomancer, and GreedFall.

Neither Nacon nor Spiders have given us much to go on as it stands, so we’ll have to wait patiently for next week’s reveal to see what the new game is all about. We’re also in the dark about whether the new game will launch on next-gen consoles or not. A PC version seems a given. A release this year seems unlikely given GreedFall launched less than a year ago back in September 2019, but we’ll wait for the reveal to learn more on that front.

GreedFall is currently available with a 40% discount on Steam as part of the Summer Sale if you fancy taking a gander at Spiders’ previous output ahead of the official reveal of their latest project. That’s £26.39, or $29.99 for those across the pond. The Steam listing describes GreedFall as follows.

”Engage in a core roleplaying experience, and forge the destiny of a new world seeping with magic, and filled with riches, lost secrets, and fantastic creatures. With diplomacy, deception and force, become part of a living, evolving world – influence its course and shape your story.”

The BioWare-style fantasy RPG currently holds a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating based on User Reviews on Steam. It certainly has its flaws and was a little rough around the edges, yet garnered reasonably positive reviews from critics, notably for producing a more than respectable RPG on a fraction of the budget afforded to AAA developers.

The new game should take the lessons learned from GreedFall and continue Spiders’ upward trajectory as it continues to make waves in the AA space.
