Yet again the Ighor July GeForce NOW data leak has provided gamers with some toasty information ahead of a game’s first official announcement. This time, it’s fighting game Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall that has been spotted in the lengthy list of would-be retail software releases and juicy rumors.

Injustice is NetherRealm’s secondary fighting game franchise, with a new instalment traditionally coming out after post-launch support has ended for every Mortal Kombat series release since Mortal Kombat 9.

Although the fighting game stars DC Comics’ biggest stars, the Injustice franchise is set in an alternate universe where Superman has become a fascist ruler and Batman, his friends —and even former foes— must face off against him in a resistance movement.

A mock-up of things to come?

What will happen in Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall?

Recent Injustice 3 rumors claimed that the game would be a Marvel vs DC Comics crossover affair. Supposedly, Captain America and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes The Avengers would come to aid Batman in a world besieged by a Superman that had escaped from prison.

The move sets for Marvel’s heroes would apparently have been based on Marvel vs Capcom, which could have led to the first fighting game that felt at least a little bit like the long-requested Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat.

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat has dropped several hints about his Marvel dreams for the Injustice series in the past, including in an interview with MinnMax’s Ben Hanson, where he stated that while he “probably shouldn’t talk about it… we would love to make a Marvel fighting game or Marvel vs DC, that would be the coolest.”

Boon also did a tweet talking about writer-director James Gunn working for both comics giants, in regards to his film adaptations of The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Injustice 3: Marvel Comics vs DC Comics cancelled?

Fans had previously read online leaks that Injustice 3 was cancelled and replaced with Mortal Kombat 12, due to an inability to collaborate properly on the Injustice 3 project with Disney and Marvel.

While we’re still not certain which games from the GeForce NOW leak are in development and which are canned, Injustice 3 is like the rain in England — it’s gonna happen at some point, whether The Avengers are there or not.

The same leaker that talked about the Injustice 3 cancellation also claimed that Mortal Kombat 11 would get a third set of DLC fighters, which have yet to appear. NetherRealm Studios have already confirmed that development on Mortal Kombat 11 DLC has now concluded, so we can still have our superhero hopes.

Really, until we get confirmation either way, Injustice 3: Gods Will Fall remains strictly a hope and a dream, but we expect to see one eventually.

Injustice Animated Movie Release Date

Injustice is an active sub-brand for DC Comics and their parent company Warner Bros, as several comic book stories and other pieces of merchandise have been created that tie in to the game since it first released back in April 2013.

In recent months, Warner Bros. Animation has announced that an Injustice animated feature film will be released on home video and streaming services. It is set to come out on October 19, 2021.
