What was expected to be the next generation of processors from Intel has been canceled, however, In a twist of fate, a pre-engineering sample of the once-promising Meteor Lake-S desktop platform has surfaced on the underground market. Here’s the first glimpse of Intel’s Cancelled LGA-1851 CPU.

The user wxnod over on Twitter and posted a picture of the pre-engineering sample of the expected new socket CPU. Marked confidential, it is believed to be from the new generation as it matches a previously leaked look at the platform from Igor’s Lab. The confidential processor was being sold on the black market and fits what was expected from the new Intel socket.

Thanks to leaks from IgorsLab and @harukaze5719, we know that the Sockst LGA-1851 will feature the same dimensions as the current socket, LGA-1700. The only difference being the new socket will feature fewer cutouts, meaning you won’t be able to accidentally pair an LGA-1700 CPU with an LGA-1851 socket.

Although the 14th Gen of Intel’s lineup was expected to come out in 2024 with a new manufacturing node and a move to a disaggregated build. However, plenty of rumors and suggestions have led everyone to believe that is not going to be the case with Arrow Lake being the next option instead.

But this is our first look at the 14th-gen featuring the LGA-1851 socket, an increase from the LGA-1700 currently being used in the 13th-gen CPUs. Although the leaked CPU getting to the confidential stage it does show a lot of manufacturing and work had been done before it was cut. It may not even be a functioning processor yet just a fit sample.

Apparently, according to VideoCardz, the CPU boasts 6 Performance cores and 8 Efficient cores, so it’s likely that it’s nowhere near a flagship CPU. Given that the 13900K featured 24 cores, it’s safe to say that this CPU pictured was most likely an i5 or i7 design. It’s hard to pinpoint when you have no further information regarding the CPU generation.

While the specific Meteor Lake-S CPU showcased may never see the light of day, the LGA-1851 socket’s legacy persists. Set to be utilized by the next-gen Arrow Lake series in 2024, Socket LGA-1851 boasts the largest number of pins ever featured in an Intel socket. We can’t wait to see what features the platform will offer.
