If you’ve been experiencing some problems keeping your schedule nice and up to date with Google Calendar, you may not be alone. That begs the question: is Google Calendar down? We’ve even seen services such as Google Play Store go down in the past, so even Google themselves aren’t immune to the odd outage every now and then.

As of September 21, 2023, we’ve been seen lots of reports about an ongoing problem regarding Google Calendar outages. We’re going to explain all the details and show you how to spot it if it happens again in future.

Is Google Calendar down?

Right now, we’ve spotted lots of users reporting that Google Calendar is down over on much-appreciated site DownDetector. In fact, it appears that more than 1,500 users (and growing) have taken to the site to report on the issue. Most people are reporting that the website is experiencing outages, so this could very well affect you too. This spike indeed hit on September 21st, starting out at around 2:30PM BST.

The number is growing higher as we report on the issue, so we’ll have to wait and see how quickly it will be resolved.

How to check if Google Calendar is down

One of the best ways of checking if Google Calendar down is by heading over to the aforementioned DownDetector website. We find this to be a great tool for tracking all kinds of user reports on websites or services going down, so it’s our go-to resource. As long as DownDetector itself doesn’t go down that is.

Another great way of checking on a whole host of Google services is by heading straight over to their Google Workspace Status Dashboard. From here, you can get a good look at how services are operating, and which ones many be encountering issues. We can now see that ‘Service disruption’ has officially been reported for Google Calendar. Google say that they’re currently ‘investigating reports of an issue with Google Calendar’ and will ‘provide more information shortly’.
