Is the Surface Pro 9 worth it in 2022?
Is the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 worth the money?
So is the Surface Pro 9 worth it? I hear you ask. The new Microsoft Surface Pro 9 release date has been and gone in US and Canadian markets, and is due out in Europe today/tomorrow, but, when all is said and done, is it actually worth your hard-earned cash? Have a read below to see if this Microsoft tablet is the right choice for you.
What is the new Surface Pro in 2022? Is it worth the upgrade?
The Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is the latest in Microsoft’s hugely popular Surface Pro series of tablets, following on from (you guessed it) the Microsoft Surface Pro 8. It’s not a complete revolution in the design of the series, but is different in some key areas. Read below for all the details.
Microsoft Surface Pro 9 vs Surface Pro 8
In terms of the chassis, the display, and how it looks, the Surface Pro 9 is very similar to the Surface Pro 8. Microsoft has kept the same design of the previous year’s model, instead focusing on adding options for more powerful processors.
The new Surface Pro 9 can be equipped with an Intel 12th gen i5 or Intel Evo 12th Gen i5/i7 CPU, or alternatively a Microsoft SQ3 CPU chip, previously only available for the Microsoft Surface X series. If you go for one of the Microsoft SQ3 processors, you get the option for 5G connection, instead of just Wi-Fi. The Surface Pro 8 is limited to 11th gen CPUs.
So is the Surface Pro 9 worth buying?
Ultimately the Surface Pro 9 is worth buying if you’re looking for a tablet with 5G support, and opt for one of the SQ3 CPU chip 5G models, or if you’re looking for a device with more processing power than the Microsoft Surface 8 can provide.
If you don’t fall into this category, then we’d suggest you instead consider getting a Surface 8 deal this Black Friday, and save yourself a substantial wedge of cash.

Final Word: is the Surface Pro 9 worth it?
So is the Surface Pro 9 worth it? Well, the second lowest specced version of the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 (without keyboard) comes with a 12th Gen Intel Evo Core i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD for $1,099. If you look at the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 with similar specs but with a less powerful 11th gen CPU but with a keyboard, you can currently get it reduced by $300 on Best Buy for $799.
Ultimately if you’re going to be buying a lower specced version like this and aren’t bothered by computing power, it makes more sense to opt for the Surface Pro 8. If you want something with the Microsoft SQ3 processor, or a more powerful 12th gen CPU, then opt for the Surface Pro 9.
