Killer Instinct is a well-known series of infighting games and the 2013 release saw the franchise reboot of a classic come to Xbox Live. this was the first to be published by Microsoft and featured on the Xbox One before becoming available for Windows 10 in 2016. The game still gets played a fair amount and the developers have gone live with what they call a “quality of life update”.

As of yesterday, they started migrating legacy services to PlayFab services for Xbox Windows PC, and Steam, something that is going to take several months. The hope is that this will help combat issues around the game’s current reliance on legacy services. Just not be clear, there is no new content in the update but the aim is to improve your gaming experience.

Things to note:

  • Your game will update to version: 3.9.30917.1.290283
  • Expect longer load times between 40-60 seconds
  • If you see ‘Refreshing DLC Timeout’ the des ask you to select ‘Wait’ and it will sync

After the above, all your content will be available, essentially like nothing has changed. Xbox players will temporarily not be able to purchase KI gold in the store, however, this will not affect those who are looking to redeem.

Whether you’ve loved the franchise since its beginnings or are looking for something a bit different in the fighting world, Killer Instinct is brilliant. Despite now being very old, we feel it still holds up today, offering great fun on and offline. Killer Instinct comes highly recommended and has received very positive reviews over its long life span, give it a try.
