Left hand command CS2 – does it work yet?

We’re sorry to say that the Left hand command in CS2 still does not currently work. Players of the beta noticed that a popular command used to shift the way your gun (or knife) is held from the right-handed position to the left-handed position did not work in CS2. There were hopes that the coming of the full CS2 release date may see it return, but sadly it has not appeared yet. Players attempting to enter the command in the developer console will be met with the message ‘unknown command’
What is the left hand command in CS?
The following two commands are what you could enter in CS:GO in order to switch between right and left handed views and back again (read our CS2 knife commands page for a brief explanation on how to enable and bring up the CS2 developer console). As mentioned though, these don’t currently work in CS2 – hopefully this will be rectified at a later date:
To switch to left-handed: cl_righthand 0
To switch back to right-handed: cl_righthand 1
Why do people use left hand command in CS?
There are actually multiple reasons why people choose to use the left hand command in CS2, besides the obvious.
As you’d expect, left-handed people generally prefer the view as it’s what they’re used to seeing IRL and it feels the most comfortable to them when getting in the gaming zone. Besides this though, some right-handed people may prefer the view, particularly if they are left eye-dominant as it might feel more like they’re actually looking down the sights somewhat (although you don’t actually look down sights in CS) – take a look at the video below if you want to work out your eye dominance. Both of these reasons are essentially about what feels subjectively better – and there’s no ‘wrong way’ to have it set.
Finally, some players bind the commands used to change between the left and right handed view so they can switch between them on the fly depending on the situation, so as to prevent the gun from blocking a certain section of the screen for instance.
Left hand command CS2 – Final Word
It seems a strange omission to us not to include the left hand command in CS2. We strongly expect that it will get added at a later date however, though it’s anyone’s guess as to when.
