The Simpsons: Hit and Run was a classic game published by Vivendi Universal Games, and developed by Radical Entertainment in 2003. This 20-year-old classic was seen as a sort of GTA-style family-friendly game, focused, of course, on the popular cartoon family, The Simpsons.
The Simpsons: Hit and Run drummed up a very loyal fanbase as it’s still played heavily today by a considerable number of people. This game is in desperate need of a remaster, enter Reubs. Man remakes the entirety of The Simpsons: Hit and Run.
Indie developer remakes The Simpsons: Hit and Run
Reubs is an indie game developer on YooTube that, you guessed it, makes videos about game development. About one year ago, Reubs decided that he was going to remake the entirety of The Simpsons: Hit and Run inside of Unreal Engine 5.
The game developer Rebus originally started his journey when he remade part of Hit and Run in just a week’s time, a video that has over 8 million views as of the time of writing.
Spurred on by the success of the video, Reubs decided to remake the entire game of Simpsons: Hit and Run inside Unreal Engine 5.
The most interesting fact about this remake isn’t just the graphical fidelity, it’s also the addition of a first-person mode that can be used both in and outside of vehicles.
The development process lasted just one year, Reubs released a video on the 22nd of July, stating that development was complete. However, despite the excitement that this video series has drummed up, we have some bad news for you.
You’ll never play this Simpsons: Hit and Run remake
Unfortunately, while the game is incredibly old, someone still owns the right to it it is pretty unclear who owns the rights to The Simpsons: Hit and Run. Some sources say Activision, others Disney, and others say EA.
Regardless, Reubs will not be making this remake public, as doing so would definitely open him up to a DMCA takedown, and all media that contains the remake will have to be removed from the internet, making a whole year of work for nothing. Man remakes the entirety of The Simpsons: Hit and Run.
