Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle was a weird game that happened to catch the eye of quite a lot of people back in 2017. This year we’re getting a sequel to that entitled Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope and we’re here to tell you everything we know about the game so far!

What Is Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope?

Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope is a much larger game than the original in terms of scale, being marketed as an intergalactic adventure. As the synopsis for the game states:

“In Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope, team up with Mario, Rabbid Peach and their friends on a galactic journey to defeat Cursa and save the Sparks!”

Unlike in the previous Mario Rabbids title you can move around wherever you want before taking your attack for the turn, meaning you can take your characters to good cover spots and run toward your enemies. Beautifully, you don’t even need to have Mario on your team, completely and utterly negating the title of the game to such a degree that it must be intentional on Ubisoft’s part. It’s still a game that looks and feels very similar to other strategy games such as XCOM, but the original Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle gave everything a distinct Nintendo twist. You use warp pipes to move around the map for example, and there are huge swathes of the maps that are based upon Mario’s unique gimmicks.

When Was The Game Announced?

The game was first announced back on the Ubisoft stage during E3 2021. Well, that was the official reveal of the game at least. If you want to get really technical about it, Nintendo managed to leak the game hours before the actual showcase itself in a similar way to how Sony leaked the Last Of Us Part 1 Remake before Summer Games Fest, by uploading the game to their official site. The same type of things happened with the release date of the game itself, but we’ll get onto that in due course.

Ubisoft has also promised an extended look at the game later today (29th June 2022) that will go further into depth as per the gameplay systems of the actual final game, showing off more of what the Nintendo Mini Partner Direct didn’t really have the time to show off yesterday and explaining how everything comes together in the final game to create a cohesive experience.

Thanks to the Ubisoft showcase of the game we now know that three incredible composers have joined the project, some of the very best in all of gaming. Those composers are Grant Kirkhope (who you may know from GoldenEye 007, Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie), Yoko Shimomura (Final Fantasy 15, Super Mario RPG, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Kingdom Hearts), and Gareth Coker (Ori, Halo Infinite, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Ark: Survival Evolved). Three of the best composers of all time, together working on one project in what could easily become one of the greatest game soundtracks of all time. For a Mario Rabbids game. This doesn’t feel like reality anymore.

When Does The Game Release? What Platforms?

Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope is currently scheduled for release on October 20th. Ubisoft somehow managed to leak even this before the actual reveal. The release date for the game appeared on Ubisoft’s storefront briefly before being pulled, so we knew the release date before it was announced.

The game will be coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch (if you’re shocked about that, you must have blacked out every time you read the word ‘Mario’, so congratulations on that) later this year at another showcase.
