The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 release date window, specs, and price have not yet been confirmed by the big M, however there are some fairly strong rumours and leaks which suggest that the launch could be just round the corner, and that give us a bit of an idea as to what specifications we can expect.

*LATEST* Microsoft has sent invites out to various Media outlets like The Verge, MSN, and many others, for a ‘Special Event’ on the 21st of September, 2023 in New York City. Although they haven’t provided details as to what to expect, pretty much everybody who’s been invited believes that the launching of Surface devices will probably dominate the proceedings. This is very likely to include the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 release window (rumored)

To reiterate, there’s been no confirmation of the Surface Laptop Go 3 release date yet from Microsoft, but Zak Bowden of Windows Central has apparently got sources in the know who say that he believes the device will start shipping in October – November 2023. We don’t know who these sources are or if they’re to be trusted, but this is all we have to go off currently.

This matches up with expectations for the Special Event: if this is when the device ends up getting revealed (on the 21st of Sept) then it follows that the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 release date will most likely land in October 2023, though we’ll obviously have to wait and see to know for sure.

Previous Surface devices have released in this same period, such as the first Surface Laptop Go (the second coming out in June of last year), so it seems a credible time window. 

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 specs (rumored)

Once again the only info we have on this is from Zak Bowden. He predicts that the changes will be mostly limited to the CPU and RAM options, with the Laptop Go 3 apparently coming equipped with a Intel 12th-Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, as opposed to the 11th gen version of the current model.

The other major change is supposedly that there will only be one memory option this year, with the 4GM RAM option being removed. This makes sense given that 4GB is too little for many bits of software these days.

Besides this, much of the core specs including the screen will reportedly be remaining the same or at least very similar. It will be interesting to see whether the Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 are updated from the current Surface Laptop Go 2 to 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E respectively (Wi-Fi 7 is probably unlikely).

Once again nothing has been confirmed about the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 price, however, we can look at the previous pricing and extrapolate out from there.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 price started at $599, but this was for the 4GB RAM model. Given we now think the starting loadout could be 8GB, it’s possible that Microsoft will raise the price, then again they could keep it to a similar level to entice those looking for a budget bargain.

Either way, we expect the Surface Laptop Go 3 price to fall within the $599 – $699 range. Time will tell if this is accurate.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 vs Surface Go 3: what’s the difference?

The Surface Laptop Go 3 and Surface Go 3 have confusingly similar names. The difference is that the standard Surface Go 3 is the convertible, 2-in-1 laptop-cum-tablet version, with a detachable magnetised keyboard. This device has already been released and we’re awaiting the 4th iteration of it.

The Surface Laptop Go 3 is very similar but has a conventional clamshell laptop form-factor, with non-detachable keyboard build into the chassis with a hinge, however it does still have a touchscreen. This device has not yet been released to the market.

Should I buy a Surface Laptop Go 3 in 2024?

Nobody has yet got their hands on a Surface Laptop Go 3 to review, so we can’t say for sure whether it’s any good or not, but if the rumors are true and it’s similar to the previous version, only with a better CPU, then it could be a solid affordable laptop, depending on how it’s priced.
