A new update has dropped for the CS2 limited test that allows you to play all maps that have previously shipped in the test. If you have access, that is. It seems as though this could be a sign that we’re finally nearing the release of CS2, but there’s still one thing missing as players flock to CS2 because all maps are now available in the limited test.

All maps are now available to play in the CS2 limited test – with a catch

There was an August 17th update posted to the CS2 updates blog over on Counter-Strike.net that states all maps have been uploaded to CS2 and are now available.

It seems as though there are now 9 maps available to play in the CS2 limited test, this is the first time we have seen all 9 of the maps available to play both on and offline in CS2. However, it’s only the maps that have been tweaked and optimized for CS2, there are no new maps added here.

We’re still waiting on Inferno to drive the competitive map pool home and potentially complete the development of CS2. Here’s what the update entailed

CS2 August 17th patch notes

Release Notes for 8/17/2023

[ MAPS ]

  • All maps previously shipped in the Limited Test are available in casual and deathmatch matchmaking
  • All maps and game modes previously shipped in the Limited Test are available for offline play

[ GAMEPLAY ]

  • Dropped bombs no longer sink in water
  • Reworked the bullet penetration system
  • Enabled bot takeover where applicable

Besides the addition of all the maps, it seems as though we’ve got a reworked bullet penetration system.

As you may know, bullet penetration in some maps was a little broken in CS2, allowing players to strategically shoot through parts of the map they otherwise shouldn’t be able to. In addition to this, it was also possible to get multiple kills with one AWP shot until now.

This update to bullet penetration addresses these concerns and makes the penetration system behave a little more tailored to Valves liking.

We can’t wait for CS2, and with each and every update we become a little more excited. We can only hope that CS2 releases soon, so we can all experience the updated glory of a fantastic, legendary game.
