Reddit user creates a “This Steam Deck has been locked” theme
A Reddit user by the name of u/SuchMemeManySkill has created a very convincing theme profile, if you will, that looks like their Steam Deck has been locked for piracy. This image was posted on the r/SteamDeck subreddit, sending some users into a panic.
Don’t panic! The theme is fake and is not something that can actually happen to your Steam Deck It appears as though u/SuchMemeManySkill has a background or at least a passion for programming, as they can be seen commenting on various technical posts relating to the Steam Deck.
It’s likely that this technical background allowed them to craft the fake theme we’re seeing, as this is certainly something you won’t find in the Steam Points Shop.
It’s not recommended you try this at home because there’s a chance you can actually lose access to your Steam account, as u/SuchMemeManySkill points out:
The link mentioned in the comment now returns a 404, with an explanation as to why the content was removed.
Can your Steam Deck be blocked for Piracy?
While Piracy is illegal and we don’t condone it in the slightest, we know that many users like to use their Steam Decks to emulate games on them, as the Linux-based operating system is easy to mod and shape into whatever you like, if you have the knowledge to do so.
There’s no evidence that suggests your Steam Deck will be banned for pirating or emulating games, as there’s little chance that Valve will detect the pirated games on your system.
However, should you pirate a Valve game and try to enter a VAC-protected server, they’ll probably ban you from that game, but not your Steam Deck as a whole.
Piracy is bad, don’t do it. But if Valve was to block a Steam Deck, it’d probably look a little like u/SuchMemeManySkill’s theme. So hat’s off to them for creating a convincing meme.
