Among Ighor July’s massively exposing NVIDIA GeForce leak documents are several unannounced but eagerly anticipated projects from studios across the games industry.
Tekken is Bandai Namco’s premiere fighting game franchise and has seen several entries come out since the original game was released in 1994. A new entry is much anticipated, but nothing has been confirmed. It is on the leaked game list from Ighor, however.
While still officially unannounced, it seems like Tekken 8 will be the name of the next next-generation Tekken game, following the popular Tekken 7 that was released by Bandai Namco in 2015 and has been supported with post-launch DLC and tournament events in the years since.
No Tekken Tag Tournament 3?
There have been two prior Tekken Tag Tournament entries, one for PS2 and one for PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360. Tag Tournament games don’t typically progress the story forward and are instead non-canonical affairs where anyone shows up and anything goes. It looks like we’re going to be waiting a while for the next one, as the leak was definitively of a game called ‘Tekken 8’.
Where does the Tekken 7 story leave off?
Kazuya and Heihachi fight one another inside an active volcano and the pair struggle against each other until they’re too exhausted to avoid each other’s fighting techniques.
Barely able to stand, Kazuya remembers that his father Heihachi killed his mother and tried to kill him, all because of their devil genes. Driven by memories of awful childhood abuse, Kazuya strikes Heihachi hard enough to stop the old man’s heart. As Heihachi burns away in the lava, Kazuya repeats the Mishima mantra that has been drilled into him his entire life: “A fight is about who is left standing. Nothing else”.
Akuma tries to take Kazuya by surprise and destroy him with a gohadoken blast, but Devil Kazuya is ready and the pair get ready for the next battle.
Elsewhere, in a ruined city, Lars, Alisa, Jin and Lee realise that Heihachi’s death won’t stop the war caused by the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corporation. Lars tells his nephew Jin that they must eliminate Kazuya and atone for what he has done to the world. Jin agrees, knowing that because of his own devil’s blood he is the world’s last hope.
Knowing that, it seems like Tekken 8 might bring us closer to a conclusion to the ongoing story that started all the way back in 1994. We can’t wait!
