- Premium build quality
- Comfortable to play with
- Easy wireless connectivity with Xbox & PC
- Four programmable back paddles
- Expensive Xbox option
First up, we’ve gone with a controller which works perfectly for fans of the Xbox controller layout, it’s the premium Xbox Elite Series 2. When it comes to Xbox controllers, this is one of the very best money can buy.
Whether you’re playing on Xbox or PC, this works a treat and offers some features which allow it to outdo the standard ‘Xbox Core’ controllers with ease. One of which has to be the four additional mappable paddles on the back to give you more options as to how you want to play. The Xbox Accessories apps gives you great control over button mapping options (and lights), while the on-board profile switch allows you to quickly alternate between your custom profiles.
The excellent build quality, adjustable thumbstick tension, and rubber grip design makes this super comfortable to play with. It’s a great all-round controller for long gaming sessions, FC 24 included. It’s built to last, so you can continue enjoying FC 24 and your other favorites for time to come.
Best PlayStation controller for FC 24: PS5 DualSense Edge

Battery life
5-10 hours
- Excellent customization
- Long-lasting build quality
- Mappable & swappable back buttons
- On-controller user interface
- Worse battery life than standard PS5 controller
Now for fans of PlayStation controllers, we have to suggest trying out the DualSense Edge. It has the be the most premium PS5 controller on the market (the SCUF Reflex Pro being a great alternative too!), offering many upgrades from the bog-standard PS5 pad in the same vein as the Xbox Elite. Here though, Sony have taken it up a notch to really allow your controller to outlast its competitors.
This premium PS5 controller features two extra mappable back buttons, which can be removed and switched out to a flat paddle shape if you prepare – all included. The thumbstick caps are changeable to pick out the best grip for you, while the trigger lengths and adjustable to allow you to make them feel as natural as possible. You can even fully replace the stick modules in case any stick drift starts to kick in, though these are sold separately.
We had lots of fun reviewing the DualSense Edge, recognizing that it’s a perfect choice for any kind of game you throw at it. FC 24 may not be the most intensive title for your thumbs, but the Edge provides premium comfort nonetheless.

- Unrivalled value for money
- Excellent color options
- Tactile feel; clicky buttons
- Mic volume rocker & detachable cable
- Build quality lower than other picks
If you’re looking for pure value for money and find yourself working with a more limited budget, the PowerA Enhanced wired Xbox controller could be the one of you. This particular pad is one we conducted a hands-on review for, and we were definitely impressed with the value for money. Sure, the build quality is lower than something like the Xbox Elite, but it isn’t bad enough to even think about complaining at this price.
We reviewed the Pink Lemonade colorway in particular. That that color option seems to have since disappeared, there are plenty of options to choose from to suit your style. If you thought this would be a regular old Xbox pad, think again, as it even features three programmable paddles of its own on the back.
One downside is that it’s a wired-only choice, which could be a turn off if anything with cables is a no-go for you – at least the cable is detachable. We found this PowerA pad nice to play with thanks to tactile buttons which are responsive. Overall, not much to complain about and a fantastic budget pick for FC 24.
Best third party controller for FC 24: SCUF Instinct Pro

- Customizable thumbsticks
- On-controller profile switching
- Four programmable paddles
- Dual-mode triggers
- Very pricey
Finally, we want to take a look at another third-party option, though this time a much more premium choice. We’ve turned to SCUF to seek out this Xbox-style option. The Instinct Pro doesn’t disappoint if you want a controller which feels great to play with, while being extremely customizable. Yet another fantastic premium option for PC and Xbox players.
This is another controller we had some experience playing with in our hands-on review, and while the cost is steep, the features prove just why. The hot-swappable thumbsticks switch out super easily, coming with sticks of different shapes and sizes tinker with to find your favorite. This kind of customization is much appreciated if you find regular controls just not gelling with you.
The triggers also feature a dual-mode switch, so you can have them quick and snappy if you’re going to play a shooter once you’re done with FC 24 for the day, or just keep them as standard. Again, this is an all-round controller built to last, super comfortable for FC 24 and any other title.
What controller layout is best for EA Sports FC 24?
Finding the best controller layout for you is very much a preference-based thing, so it’s hard to say which one is better objectively. Of course, you’re better off using the associated controller for your console for full support, but PC players have a decision to make. Xbox controller have long been the go-to thanks to easier support on Windows. PlayStation controllers are now just as good though, especially since Steam controller configuration makes it easy to use a PS5 DualSense on PC for example.
We say that sticking to what you know is the best option. FC 24 works great on both Xbox and PlayStation controller layouts, so there’s no real winner in this regard.
