The use of AI-based writing tools has become a topic of debate in recent times. One of the most popular AI writing tools, Google Bard, After its recent release has raised questions about whether it can be detected by plagiarism detection software like Turnitin.

According to Turnitin’s website, they have recently developed technology to detect AI-assisted writing and AI writing generated by tools such as Google Bard.

Turnitin cannot directly differentiate between human and AI-generated content, it has tools to detect AI input by determining the use of specific phrases or sentence structures commonly found in AI-generated content.

However, results are mixed, and it is not guaranteed that Turnitin can detect Bard AI content. Additionally, evidence circulating online suggests that the detection of AI-generated content is not foolproof.

It is crucial to note that if one uses Google Bard’s responses and presents them as their own work without proper citation, it will be considered plagiarism.

In such cases, plagiarism detection software may flag such instances as plagiarism if they detect that the text has been copied from a source without appropriate attribution.

During the experiment, we asked Google Bard to write a sick leave application, a cover letter, summarize some web articles, and answer general questions such as “What is Intel?” and “Who is winning the battle in AI, Google or Microsoft?” While Google Bard did provide us with somewhat accurate answers, the primary issue was that the responses were directly copied from the internet. This led to the high level of plagiarism detected by Turnitin.

It is essential to note that Google Bard is an excellent AI Chatbot, but it is still capable of responding and copying content from the internet, which can be detected by Turnitin.

Therefore, it is highly recommended to use human creativity instead of relying solely on AI-generated text tools like Google Bard to avoid plagiarism.

AI detection tools largely operate on the same basis as plagiarism detection. This is because text written by AI tends to directly borrow from the information it is trained upon. Simply making sure your text reads in a human and personable way can help. Using personal pronouns and avoiding over generalizations can help with this.

Grammar correction tools like Grammarly can be very useful with spellings and grammar but the fact that they use AI algorithms to proofread text means that the corrections they give can sometimes get flagged up by Turnitin. For this reason its best not to use Grammarly’s grammar correction tool too much.

If you’re really worried about your work being flagged up by Turnitin then you could try writing in Google Docs this program has a version history which might help to prove your innocence! You could even screen-record while you’re working on your essay.

As AI-based writing tools continue to evolve, plagiarism detection software will also need to evolve to address emerging forms of misconduct.

While Google Bard can be a helpful productivity and research tool, it should only be used for educational purposes and not for submitting assignments or other academic work. Google Bard can generate responses and citations, it is not a substitute for genuine creativity and research in producing original content.

While Turnitin and other plagiarism detection software may have the ability to detect AI-generated content, it is not a foolproof method. It is important to properly attribute any sources of information or text used in your work, including responses generated by Google Bard.
