In this article, we will be taking a closer look at two higher-end GPUs, the RTX 2060 and the RTX 2060 Super. While they both seem similar, their specifications do vary. We have benchmarked both GPUs, focusing on their resolution, FPS, architecture, and VRAM.

Nvidia

When Nvidia’s first RIVA GPU was released back in 1997, they completely revolutionized the gaming world. This graphics card was a breakthrough in gaming technology and paved the way for the high spec GPUs that we know and respect today.

While Nvidia is known for their impressive high-end graphics cards, their low to mid-range graphics cards also excel in comparison to their rivals. While these GPUs may not be quite on the same level as the top-end cards, they still produce impressive graphics.

Nvidia is well known for its frequent release of creative and innovative graphics cards. They keep up a healthy competition with AMD and push them to release higher spec cards to rival Nvidia’s.

Architecture

The clock speeds of these GPUs are as follows:

2060:

Cooling

The cooling system your graphics card uses is important, especially if you are considering overclocking. When you overclock a component it increases its overall temperature. If you do not have a sufficient cooling system, your GPU will overheat.

Both the 2060 and the 2060 Super use two dual-axial 13 blade fans. These offer good cooling and provide a quiet performance. As they use a next-gen 6 phase power supply they are built to withstand maximum overclocking.

The maximum GPU temperature of the 2060 is 88℃ and for the 2060 Super, it is 89℃. This is before any thermal throttling has taken place.

When looking at the overall power consumption, the 2060 Super uses slightly more power. Its specifications are 175W in comparison to the 2060 which is 160W.

The recommended power supply for the 2060 Super is slightly higher, with 550W, in comparison to the 2060’s 500W. Though it does not seem like a big difference, over time, the 2060 Super will draw significantly more power.

Overall, they are both similar in their cooling systems, temperature, and power usage. However, the 2060 Super does run slightly higher.

Dimensions

When purchasing a GPU, you will need to be aware of its size. While the majority of graphics cards will only vary slightly, this can make a difference to your build. You should always ensure that you have sufficient room for the GPU before purchasing it.

Their size is the same and it will not make a difference which one you purchase. The length of these GPUs does run smaller in comparison to some of Nvidia’s older GPU models. This is great if you have limited height space in your build.

The interface used by both GPUs is PCIe 3.0 x16. This is an interesting decision considering that PCIe 4.0 x16 has since been released. However, this interface will be future proof for a good while.

Resolutions/FPS

The resolution and the FPS your graphics card runs at is very important.

Both GPUs have a resolution of 7680×4320. While they will perform the best at 1080p, they are capable of 4K gameplay. This is great given that the majority of gamers still prefer to use a 1080p resolution over 1440p.

As both cards are compatible with 4K, this will significantly future proof your build.

Let’s discuss how each GPU performed when benchmarking was carried out. Overall it was not surprising to find that the 2060 Super has a 12% better effective speed.

When looking at specific gameplay, the 2060 Super performed better benchmarked at max 1080p. When testing GTA V gameplay, the 2060 Super performed at 110 fps, in comparison to the 2060’s 96 fps.

The overclock score is where the 2060 Super fared better again. It was 13% better overall. When looking at the MRender, the 2060 had 134 fps and the 2060 Super had 176 fps.

While the 2060 Super did perform better than the 2060 when benchmarked, the differences were very minimal. It is unlikely that the average person would notice the slight increase in speeds.

If you already own the 2060, it is not worth upgrading to the 2060 Super. However, if you have a lower spec GPU, the 2060 Super is a fantastic upgrade.

Ray Tracing

Ray tracing being integrated into a GPU is exclusive to Nvidia. All of the RTX products have this ability, including the 2060 and the 2060 Super.

If you play games such a Call of Duty and larger modern games, you will benefit significantly from ray tracing. It improves the lighting in-game and allows the shading and overall gameplay to feel more realistic.

While you can game well without ray tracing, it is certainly worth considering. Given that both of these GPUs have this feature, this will further future proof your build.

VRAM

The VRAM of a graphics card is something you should study before purchasing. The VRAM needed in a graphics card for a gaming PC should have at least 8GB. This will allow your PC to run well at a 1080p resolution.

If you are looking to consistently game at 1440p, or want to future-proof your build, you should be looking for a higher GB.

When looking at both memory speeds, they both have a speed of 14Gbps, which is good. They both have a standard memory configuration of GDDR6. However, the 2060 has 6 GB and the 2060 Super has 8GB.

GDDR6 is currently the best memory configuration available. This is great as both GPUs will future proof your build. However, if you want the higher GB, the 2060 Super is the better option.

However, the 2060 Super is a slightly better card, especially when the fps was benchmarked. If you are looking to upgrade to an old GPU, this is the better option for you, though it is more expensive.

If you already own the 2060 there is no need to upgrade to the 2060 Super. In addition to this, if you are looking for the cheaper option of the two the 2060 is a fantastic option.
