Puzzles are a big part of any Zelda game and they’ll play a large role in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. as well. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild introduced two unique ways to utilize motion controls with the first involving puzzles and the second with aiming. With both puzzles and ranged weapons returning in the sequel, motion controls could once again return.

Whether you’re a fan of motion controls or the old-fashioned route of pressing buttons, here’s whether or not they’ll be used in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Will The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom use motion controls?

It’s safe to say that motion controls should be in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. There is an official Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Pro Controller that comes with motion controls to back this theory. However, without playing the game, it’s tough to confirm if Tears of the Kingdom will use motion controls at all. Though, with the way they were used in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it’s safe to assume you can use the Nintendo Switch motion controls in the sequel. Whether it’s in dungeons or completing side quest. As Link uses bows and arrows and trailers have showcased puzzles in the game, it’s likely you’ll be able to use some sort of motion control feature.

While motion controls can be finicky mechanics, however, they were used to solve many shrine puzzles in the first game. Many had players hold the Nintendo Switch by the joy-cons and turn it over in their hands. This was in an effort to get a metal ball from one area to the next. Though one downside of motion controls is they could lead to motion sickness for some players. The camera would twist and turn around and refocusing it with the left stick and right stick didn’t always behave as normal.

Whereas, motion controls could also be used to have Link aim a bow and fire arrows during combat. It was a fun and interesting way to get through the game but could be turned off if players felt the need.

If anyone is wondering, Breath of the Wild could be beaten entirely without the use of motion controls. Though it did make solving many puzzles a bit trickier.
