With the current generation of Xbox consoles being under 2 different names, it feels like we always expect them to be together. We even refer to it as the Xbox Series X|S when talking about it. However, Dead Island 2 seems to have left the Series S edition off the checklist when making the game. Let’s go over if Dead Island 2 can be played on the Xbox Series S.

Can Dead Island Run On The Xbox Series S?

Since Dead Island 2 runs on the Xbox One, it makes sense that there should be a Series S version of the game. However, looking at the pre-order page shows a lack of a Series S version and only a Series X or Xbox One version. It seems that this might be a slight advertising error though.

Despite not being listed as working on the Series S, it would seem that the Series X version of the game will work if placed into a Series S console. So go ahead and pick up any of the various Series X editions of Dead Island 2 and play it on your Xbox Series S with ease.

While it is unknown why the Series S wasn’t listed separately, it speaks to the odd way Microsoft is handling the console. Diving the console into two different versions upon release is just asking for a bunch of confusion. That’s how we end up in situations like this.

Luckily, this time it isn’t too much of an issue. As you don’t lose anything by playing on the Series S over the X. You can even host co-op games for your friends with the Series S like you can on the X. It just seems odd that the Series S edition was forgotten this time.

Maybe this is a sign that some upcoming games will be Series X exclusives. Making them unable to run on the Series S. That doesn’t seem likely though, as both consoles are quite similar in power.
