It’s great we can finally play Diablo 2: Resurrected on a number of different systems such as PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation but the chance to play it with our friends across those systems is more limited than we would like.

Let’s take a closer look at what we can and can’t do in this great remake of an all-time classic and ask the question – is Diablo 2: Resurrected Crossplay?

First thing’s first we love that we can continue our progression in the game on whatever format we have handy. We can game at night on the PC and then carry right on on the Nintendo Switch the next day during our lunch break.

That’s cool.

All you need to do is have your Battle.net account linked to whatever platforms you own the game on. Simple enough. Somewhat more irritatingly you will have to purchase the game separately for each platform too.

So in reality not so many people are going to buy multiple copies for the different format for most use-case scenarios.

But when it comes to hooking up with your friends on another format for some hardcore multi-player action things get even bleaker.

The way we traditionally view crossplay on games these days is the ability to play with people on other platforms in the same campaign. Well that feature is not a part of Diablo 2: Resurrected – only the cross-progression thing mentioned above.

So if you have a friend you want to party-up with but they are on the PlayStation and you are on your PC, well there is no party to be had which is a bit of a shame.

Will crossplay be added to Diablo 2: Resurrected

There is no chatter on the wires about this ever becoming a thing at this stage.

Of course, other massive games such as Apex Legends didn’t have crossplay at launch and it actually took a couple of years to implement so while we can’t rule it out completely at this stage, we wouldn’t hold your breath.

While Diablo 2 may not have cross-play enabled across their platforms, cross-progression gives the flexibility for Diablo fans to allow them to be more portable with their experience without skipping a beat.

Just enjoy Diablo 2: Resurrected for what it is. A fine homage to a classic videogame.
